Target Is Target.com no longer carrying BDs as well now...?

I usually nab at least 50 titles whenever Target's B2G1Fs roll around, and have maintained a "Blu-ray Registry" (wishlist) on their website for the past 8 years or so, with 100-200 titles at any given time (mostly a lot of older stuff). I'd say my Registry titles run about 10-20% out of stock on most occasions, but I just glanced at my list for the first time since the last sale in June, and it looks like about 85% of my titles are OOS now. I've never seen anything remotely like that, so I'm starting to wonder if they're ditching physical media online now as well. If so, I definitely wasn't expecting that, and it's terrifying to think all that might be left soon for catalog titles is Amazon... Hopefully I'm wrong and Target's distributor gets 'em restocked before BF or the next sale rolls around. Oh wise Hariseldon, what say you? Am I screwed now...?

I'm not surprised at all.

I think for the time being they'll continue to carry major titles like Barbie, Disney, etc. But they will continue to dwindle the physical media section for DVD and blu. If we get another B2G1 free sale, it'll likely be to sell off inventory and clear space for other items.

This might be due to that one distributer no longer handling media anymore. When I do a search for "blu ray" at Target.com, I see 1780 products listed, including preorders for Kino and Arrow, plus items from MVD, Severin, and OCN.

Again, Target uses a distributor just like Best Buy so it doesn't own the inventory, or it can just send it back. The exceptions are Target exclusives (obviously), which we've seen Target having to clearance. But there just are so few of these now.

Bottomline- don't look for clearance or deep discounts. Target has no need to do that.

Yeah, I believe Ingram going out of business is the biggest factor for why so many titles at Target are OOS. I think they used Ingram heavily, even more than Alliance.

Target clearance used to be my jam for 70% off video games for years and years. That’s really dried up.

Was it ever explained why Target's website no longer stocks Criterions? It's not a big deal, just wondering.

Thanks.

Something I just learned today is that Target absurdly doesn't automatically lower prices on pre-orders to price-match themselves if you order earlier than two weeks. So if you ever do pre-orders on sale make sure you aren't over paying. They are making a "one time exception" but still something to keep an eye on.

I just do rebuy, return. They don’t care and it’s easier for them to process.

That always ticks me off when stores "gracefully" allow you a "one time exception" just to do the obvious and clearly the only appropriate thing. Afterall, target claims to honor their best price for a month AFTER purchase.

As someone who has spent many years working at Target in the electronics section and seen the way ads during the holiday season the last 3 years favor items that are overstocked in the back lockup, I'm aware. The B2G1 sales started when the backroom had too much overstock and we weren't moving enough product on the floor to pull from back stock. A lot of the specific sales titles I used to see, which is more rare nowadays, were for items that we had copious amounts in scan-putaway.

And while I do not have any inside information, I think the reason we see less B2G1 free deals now is because they were more beneficial in-store for Target than they were online. With most people utilizing these sales on the website rather than in-store, there's just not a lot of incentive for Target to hold them.

B2G1 used to be a great way to clear out space in back stock and maybe even incentivize people to spend more in-store than they meant to. You might be coming in just to buy some blu-rays, but there's a good chance that, like most Target customers, you end up buying more than you intended.

One of the dumbest retail experiences I ever had was with a Target pre-order where the price dropped ~$10 when it went on sale the week after release. I'm not even a stickler over price matches, but $10 is $10.

I went in to get a price match, but the price match had expired (I guess their policy at the time was 7 days). So I said, "ok, I'll just return it and rebuy it then", since it was still within the 14 day return window and I hadn't opened it yet. Guy said they couldn't do that. I said "Ok, just return it". He then threatened to call security if I went into the movie section to buy the movie again. He made up some BS calling it a "loss prevention issue". I said, "so I'm now the only person in the world not allowed to just walk in here and buy this movie or something?", I then asked when this ban on me buying the movie expired? Did it apply at all Target stores? Got a blank stare for 10 seconds as the illogic of what he was saying processed in his mind, and then he gave me the old "ok, as a one time exception I'll ring it up for you here" line.

Still hoping maybe next week or later Target will $9.99 Wakanda Forever for Black Friday. I loved the surprise of Dr Strange last year.

Pretty sure that’s how it went last year and then movies came later during BF week.

Last year Thor Love and Thunder 4K for $6 was the biggie, same price for Lightyear.

Doctor Strange was $10 and Best Buy matched the price.

I've been trying to respond to this for a couple of days, but I can't find what happened to the post from that other guy whom recommended a different storage bin.

Well whoever that was, he was absolutely correct. I was wrong with the version I had picked out. I ended up returning all six of those long, oversized underbed bins and got these ones instead: Sterilite 32qt Clear View Storage Bin with Latch Purple.

They are perfect. The previous one was 48qt so they held exactly +50% more, but they are also too big and too heavy to maneuver when full. These ones are only $7.99 (precisely half the price) and are much more portable. They each hold about ~80 amaray cases comfortably.

This is a much better solution that what I was using previously. They stack well, are smaller and simpler to move, and it's easy to grab a couple additional ones from the store if you need more. Both the price and the portability.

I have now reclaimed my living room space and it looks so much better.
