Keep in mind, there's a difference in the negative being scanned at 8K and how the final image is mastered.

There's already so much bitrate potential in Blu-rays, I doubt adding to the bitrate will noticeably change anything over a transfer that already averages in the high 20's or 30's. What's going to make the improvement will be (potentially) better scans/transfers used to make these Blu-rays. |

They are mastered from 4k sources but still encoded at 1080p so playing them back on 4k equipment would be no different than playing any other BD on 4k equipment, it will be upscaled.

Whilst they're at it, I really wish they would release a Blu-Ray edition of Ghostbusters II. That title is long overdue. Last edited by The Fallen Deity; 04-28-2013 at 02:44 PM. |

MGM own RoboCop. They struck a new master of the film last year, but it's yet to be released on blu and probably won't be until the theatrical release of the remake.

I've never read anything concrete about a remaster being done for Robocop, just rumors mainly.

CNET says the new mastered in 4k titles DO have a quality improvement over the original blu-ray discs. They talked about how the bit rate has been raised by foregoing the extras on the disc to make a better picture. To me this sounds like the first release of Avatar on blu-ray. They went without extras to raise the bitrate, but the collector's edition with seamless branching seems to have the same PQ to me even though they packed more onto the disc. Has anyone read actual reviews of these yet? Anyhow here is the article: http://www.cnet.com.au/sony-mastered...-339344100.htm
