Yes I have a 4K Blu-ray player, the Sony 790

Yeah, that is what I thought

I would like to hear reviews first before double dipping

That model only does 4K upscaling like blu-ray_girl_fan said. It doesn't support true 4K. There's a big difference between the two. It's like a DVD player that upscales DVDs to 1080p. You don't get true 1080p Blu-ray quality from an upscaled DVD, and you don't get true 4K quality from an upscaled 1080p Blu-ray.

If people can notice the PQ difference between a DVD and Blu-ray on a CRT set, then you should be able to notice a marginal difference in quality to the standard Blu-ray or non-upscaling player.

Im pretty sure Best Buy will have this first wave on May 7th, a week early, according to their website. Which makes them all eligable for the Upgrade and Save. Just a thought...

Works for me! Canceling my Amazon pre-order, and will just pick it up at Best Buy. Can't beat $9.99 on day one.

Is this supposed to be the 4K rerelease of Amazing Spider-Man? Best Buy has it listed as being a 3 disc set. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Amazing+...143&st=amazing spider-man&lp=1&cp=1

I would not be surprised if The Amazing Spider-Man and Total Recall are completely identical to the existing releases.

It looks like Ghostbusters, Spider-Man and Glory will be getting new transfers, the rest look like they're going to be identical to the current editions.

"Keep in mind, these are NOT actual 4K Blu-rays. They’re essentially the BD equivalent of Sony’s Superbit DVDs from a few years back – simply mastered from 4K source material with high video data rates, but still just 1080p. My personal response to these is similar to my reaction to the Superbit DVDs back in the day: If you can master Blu-rays in better quality, why haven’t you been doing it all along?"

How many people will watch these and believe that the picture quality is better!
Mastered in 4K lol. Most of the bond movies were mastered in 4K and dont see no
4K badge on them. The wizard of oz was mastered at 8K. Gimmick Gimmick Gimmick.

sure it's a gimmick, but at least Sony is upfront and is stating these are actual 4K scan/transfers - I'm looking forward to the reviews, and I hope these new editions are improvements over the prior bluray editions (notably 'Ghostbusters')

I will have to check out the review on GhostBusters when it comes out. (If it's good I might pick it up) If these are mastered in 4K will they be 4K resolution when played on a 4KTV and 4K player? Or will it be Up Scaling tricks? AKA not real 4K

I have another question. When 4K comes out, will the audio be the same Dolby True HD, DTS HD MASTER AUDIO?
As far as I know this is the best is can get. Sure with 4K Discs we could get the uncompressed LPCM track on all movies, but current AVRs can already handle this. Other then say more ch's 8.2 9.2 11.2 22.2 ect. Do you see the movie studio trying to force us to buy new AVR's for HD audio our receiver's can't do now?

The only thing I can think of is AVR's that are true 4K for video, We already have AVR's, that upscale to 4K.
