I'm not a huge Star Trek fan -- I really liked Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, and they're the only Star Trek movies I've seen.

As I enjoyed both of J.J.'s Star Trek movies, I'm looking forward to the third.

That said, I'm glad Orci is out. Orci and Kurtzman are generally terrible, so I'll celebrate any time their name is removed from anything other than diaper commercials.

Oh, so glad to hear Orci isn't directing. Kind of makes me think back to his comments to the fans about why he writes and they don't. Well, I guess some people direct and he doesn't Was he ever officially announced as director or was it just him running his mouth about how he was going to do it? Still think this movie is going to be bad since Orci and JJ are still producing it but maybe, just maybe, they will get a director who cares about the script and will do a decent movie. I might actually have to watch this one.

Great news, but I still wish JJ Abrams was doing it.

Was This The Plot Of Roberto Orci's STAR TREK 3 & The Reason He Got The Boot?
Quote:
According to sources for Devin Faraci From Badass Digest, the script for Roberto Orci's Star Trek 3 was one of the reasons he was relieved of his directing duties. Hit the jump to check out some potentially new details regarding the film's plot.

Roberto Orci is best known for writing the screenplays to Michael Bay's Transformers films, Jon Favreau's Cowboys and Aliens, Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man films and J.J. Abrams' Star Trek films - alongside his ex-writing partner Alex Kurtzman. Star Trek 3 was going to mark Ocri's directorial debut, but as you know from today's new, that is no longer the case. Why is he no longer directing it? Devin Faraci From Badass Digest has been told by his sources that "the script was one of the problem factors," so much so that Paramount shutdown production on the film last month to try to work on "direction of the screenplay."

My sources tell me that the script Orci was working on saw the Enterprise, the Vulcans and a new alien race competing to get a time travel device. The Vulcans want to go back and stop the destruction of their planet, and the time travel schtick is what would allow Chris Pine and William Shatner to share the screen. - Devin Faraci

It is a bit of surprise that the screenplay would be an issue now as Orci announced that he and the Boilerplate screenwriters Patrick McKay and JD Payne had completed it in August.

Orci seemed like a strange choice from the get go. He's never directed anything. Not even a commercial, let alone a big budget Hollywood movie. Though, Orci wouldn't have been the first Star Trek director to make their feature film debut. It was previously done by Leonard Nimoy ("Star Trek III: The Search for Spock") and Jonathan Frakes ("Star Trek: First Contact"), but I would argue that Nimoy and Frakes had some directing experience before taking on a Star Trek film. Nimoy had directed several television episodes for various shows and Frakes had directed 13 Star Trek episodes for The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine & Voyager. You also have to factor in that the actors-turned-directors were much more familiar with the material as Nimoy began playing 'Spock' in 1965 and Frakes began playing 'Commander William T. Riker' in 1987. I think I made my point.

I'm hearing the TREK 3 script is dumped, which I'm assuming means McKay and Payne are out as well. Best of luck to those guys, if so.

What I get out of this is, Paramount saw this project going South and put an end to it to regroup. Best news I've heard out of Hollywood in awhile. Paramount make this a GOOD movie, not just a cheap (expensive) money maker!

Thank goodness Orci is out. But for f's sake, are they going to try to reunite each new cast member with the old?

For films trying to do something different, they sure seem to keep running back to TOS a lot. Besides the storyline sounds dumb - Spock already knows how to travel through time(slingshot effect from episodes and Voyage Home) so if the Vulcans wanted to go back and save the planet, which goes against the nature of the race(but hey whatever, it's an alternate universe so things don't have to make sense), they could have done it the day after it happened. Only a slight plothole there. That and a single ship still couldn't stop Nero so what exactly are they planning to do?

Dude, Scrubs is fantastic.

As for Edgar, huge fan, not the right choice here, he's capable of so much more, seeing him get tied to this franchise would literally break my heart. Especially considering the interesting films he's attached to at the moment.

man, all that would be needed is Nick Frost, and we'd have a 4th cornetto entry!

as for the story, heck I didn't want a days of future past, lets hope it's a little tease.

I like Edgar Wright, but I don't spot much similarity with him and Abrams. I love the first two movies, and I don't want this to feel completely different than the last two.
