I'd be okay with the '80s setting if they were subtle about it, but you just know those clowns at Platinum Dunes can't do subtlety.
You make some good points on it.

They don't need to do all that stuff. This franchise just belongs in that era IMO. I don't wan't to see endless 80's references but a good classic F13th score with a couple of songs and fashion that is accurate. I would also like to see them go with a more grainy, pulpy old school look as well. Really, back to basics.

My Bloody Valentine, loved both of them in those movies. Wish they would do more horror films alongside Supernatural.

They're doing a Kickstarter to get the rest of the funding needed to complete a Friday The 13th game. It sounds awesome. I hope they get enough backers for it to happen. We need more horror video games. And I don't mean zombie ones. Those have been done to death. It seems those are the only horror games we get. I want some slasher games like this. I'm not a big gamer but that's because there aren't many games that really interest me. But this looks great.

This would be great if it weren't multiplayer only.

Wonder if we'll actually get this new film next year as they claim? And the new game looks AMAZING in the trailer. And with Harry Manfredini back to do the score.....YAY!

Paramount Pictures has delayed both the new Friday the 13th and the upcoming The Ring sequel, Rings

Paramount Pictures has made some alterations to their schedule of upcoming horror features. The new Friday the 13th sequel was originally planned for release Friday, May 13, 2016. Instead, the feature will arrive on the big screen January 13, 2017. Meanwhile, The Ring sequel, Rings, has taken an April 1, 2016 spot. Originally intended for release this year, Rings was temporarily removed from Paramount’s schedule earlier this year.

One of the more popular entries in the slasher genre, the first Friday the 13th was released in 1980 and followed a series of brutal murders of teen counselors at Camp Crystal Lake. The killer was ultimately revealed to be Pamela Voorhees, a mother whose son, Jason, drowned in the lake years earlier due to the negligence of the camp’s staff. As the cinematic series progressed, Jason himself became the franchise’s iconic hockey mask-wearing, machete-wielding killer.

The Friday the 13th franchise currently consists of ten original “solo” films, the 2003 crossover Freddy vs. Jason, and, most recently, the 2009 reboot. There was also a short-lived television series that, despite its title, was unconnected to the plot of the film franchise. A new Friday the 13th television series is also currently in development for The CW.

The new Friday the 13th film is set to be directed by V/H/S helmer David Bruckner and will feature a screenplay by ‘Hannibal” co-producer Nick Antosca. Michael Bay and Andrew Form are also producing the new film through their Platinum Dunes, which also produced the 2009 film.

Rings, meanwhile, stars Alex Roe as Holt, a young man who begins to become distant from his girlfriend, Julia (Matilda Lutz), after watching the infamous deadly videotape the series is known for. “The Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki will co-star in the film.

F. Javier Gutiérrez, best known for helming Before the Fall, is directing Rings, with Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman writing the script based on a draft by David Loucka

They might as well not even bother. I mean how hard is it to make a F13 movie?

This is just beyond ridiculous!!!! You would think they were trying to make a sequel to "Citizen Kane." It's "Friday the 13th." This is the THIRD time this film has been dated and they delayed. Paramount drops the ball once again!

I mean they churned them out in the 80's. I mean the quality might have not been good. But still. Jason isn't that complicated of a character.

Kids have sex/do drugs at a camp. Jason stalks and kills them. With one or two people surviving at the end. Not that hard really.

Just give it to Eli Roth. He'd probably crank out a script and shoot the damn thing in just 30 days altogether and it'll turn out better than the reboot.

The rights will revert back to WB/Newline before Paramount even gets to make this movie

Delayed until January 13, 2017? It's actually closer than you think. It's coming out before the next president starts her/his first term a week from that day.
