Derb knows a lot more than I do, but I installed the 1Tb EVO from Samsung quite a long time ago and have had no issues. The 3D V-NAND drive was not available at the time, which I think it has marginally faster load speeds. My cost was about the same, at the time. While the cost/load ratio might be extraordinarily high for many, the load times are palpably better, which makes me happy; some games feel like torture on the second PS4 that still has the stock HDD in it.

I decided to go with the SSD initially, because the only HDD failure I have ever had in my life was mechanical. I know mechanical failures are rare, and I know SSD's can fail, too, but it's just one of those things.

I overkilled that by putting this in it around the time Fallout 4 came out.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-In...=sr_1_2&sr=8-2

At that price, I could of bought 2 brand new PS4's.

Money aside,

Yes there is a 33.3% increase in overall load time on most games. Games which require servers like Battlefront, Destiny etc, you are limited by their bandwidth which slows down the load time somewhat.

I've clocked GTA V SP from game boot-up. In comparison to a standard HDD when the game loading display shows 50%, the game on SSD is playable.

Fallout 4 cuts down fast travel load times (Doesn't matter where ya go on map) by roughly 12 seconds.

The main problem with SSD with PS4 is the system does not support SATA III. (Up to 6GB/s) It supports SATA II at near 3GB/s. I think because of this, textures & draw distance absolutely do not load faster than a standard HDD.

A very minor pro is SSD retains its memory. So you get a little extra space per MB of the drive. Example, a 2TB HDD will give you 1.77TB free space. An SSD @ 2TB will give you 1.81TB.

SSD has a shelf life. Depending on which you have, 150TB writes & the drive is done for. So basically it is not meant for constant writes/re-writes especially when your dealing with 30-45GB games here & there. It's meant for read only. You have to be careful not to abuse the drive by installing & deleting frequently.

So far I've yet to have issue with mine. I'm also used to the increase in load times so much so I'd have to swap in a standard HDD to tell the difference.
thx for the info.

I'm still kinda perplexed why SSDs are not working at full capability on the likes of PS4. What os holding it back really? Is it the 3GB read SATA II speed mentioned on previous page vs 6gb SATA III?

The OS is not holding it back. Remember games have access to near 5GB of RAM. Instead of a 33.3% increase in load time if the PS4 accepted SATA III that percentage would double.

Also I'd say the cost to load ratio would then be worth the price easy.

Buttttt I'd question if the system supported SATA III, could it handle the heat. Literally.

I thought the connector type was just different though a la HDMI 1.1 vs 2.0 etc.

I wouldn't know since I put it in as soon as I took the system out of the box.

Heat of what? SSD's do not get hot. There's no moving parts. A mechanical drive? Sure, that'll make some more heat.

You are correct. Although I'm not sure if they'd have to use totally different controller chips on the motherboard to use USB 3 which would add to the cost.

Less heat is one of the things I noticed when I had an SSD in my PS3. It never seemed to kick the higher fan on.

SSD is flash, I assure you it gets hot & the PS4 knows this.

As for HDMI, the system is 1.4 spec, it also has nothing to do with internal storage.

Is there a way to download all of a game's DLC at once? I got the Batman AK Premium addition last night and was surprised that only the main game downloaded. The thing has a sh-t ton of content. Do I have to manually go through and download each individually?

Best bet would be to go to the PS Store website and queue them up there I'd guess.

First look in your library to see if you can download them all there.

There isn't a download all option.

Game is 73+GB after, just a heads up.

I'd stick with wired if you can. No issues of late.

thanks. Process was annoying bc you can only add 10 things to your cart at a time and this game has an absurd amount of content.

Wasn't sure where to ask so will try here. I am starting to run out of space in my hard drive. GTA and Elder Scrolls take up a lot of GB! Anyways, I got update for ESO today that wouldn't upload due to lack of space. Had about 43GB in free space too. So had to delete Battlefront to allow for ESO to update. But the update was tiny and not even 1 GB. Any reason why this upgrade didn't happen in first place when I had the room? Thanks.

Just guessing here but I'm thinking because the patch rewrites files on the game instead of replacing them. I've heard of needing twice the size of a patch for reserved space for kit games but perhaps in some instances it needs double the space of the game plus patch. It probably patches a temp version of the game install and when finished deletes the old copy.

Wow, that's such a hassle. Battlefront took a long time to download and even to install for me. But it's good to keep this in mind for the future. Unfortunately the Battlefront bundle came with a 500GB hdd (even though it came out after Black Ops 3's 1TB bundle), so I have about 43GB left. I'll just have to delete the games I'm truly done with; buying a 2TB hdd is still a few hundred.
