Thanks! But why is that so bad? You still have lifetime rights to the movie, especially if you download it. Plus it saves on storage space with a physical disc. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Because you can only play it on supported devices (such as iTunes digital copies only working on iOS devices, and UV movies are only accessible thru supported UV service apps as the Common Format File has yet to debut). Granted, I like using iTunes digital copies for their captioning support (and I would never try to create my own digital copy as I really don't want to burn subtitles into the video). But I always get the Blu-Ray for superior sound, picture, and extras and the digital copy included is a complement.

But technically BDs and DVDs have copy protection too and are limited to certain devices (region locking still exists on some titles, you can't play BDs in a DVD player, and DVDs and BDs don't work in their respective computer drive without a decoder). But yes, you still have more control.

Right now I am able to play my iTunes and VuDu libraries on my TV, my iPhone, and my iPad. Are you saying that might change? I always buy my favorite movies on Blu-ray anyway, and consider the Digital copy as a nice bonus just as you do but to be totally honest, I really don't see much of a difference between the Blu-ray and the Digital HD copy, especially on VuDu which gives you full 1080 quality with their HDX version. Of course it's very possible that I may need new glasses 😜

If a disc has to go to an online server for an authentication key, that server can also disappear over time, rendering your discs unplayable.

Many people upgrade or change their players or they konk out, and if you have to go online to be able to play the disc, and the key has been pulled for multiple reasons... the disc is a coaster.

If you buy a Blu-ray or DVD, you own it. You can resell it if you want, or Will it to someone upon your death. You can also trade it, or just give it away as a gift. You can't do any of that with DRM movies, because you don't truly own it.

It's like buying a house but not being allowed to paint it, sell it, do repairs on it, etc. because even though you bought it, you don't truly own it.

I don't want to spend $700,000 on a house to "rent" it, and I don't want to rent my movies either. With DRM, it's like a lifetime rental on movies.

Looks like I really should give my brother all my log-ins in case I get whacked by Tommy DeVito. But seriously, it's not a bad idea to do this so my "owned" digital movies/shows don't get lost.

That's a good idea. But before I write down the passwords to pass on, maybe I should change a few I'm wondering how my family would react to one of my current passwords "amy is a lying {blank}"

I tend to personalize my passwords so I don't forget them.

I don't know, I'm sure that because this is Aladdin we are talking about, plus with Robin Williams' death, this Diamond Edition would be number #1 no matter which week Disney chooses to release it on.

I agree. This title will be huge, so they just need to pick some arbitrary date and go with it.

With all due respect, if you were whacked I'm sure your family would be more interested in your bank accounts and current debt than your iTunes login.

I think it's important to provide someone trustworthy with all passwords for everything should you find yourself whacked unexpectedly.

True, but Disney does plan out its releases carefully, and I'm sure they not only consider when their own titles are being released (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tomorrowland, Inside Out), but when other studios may release their titles (such as Universal's Jurassic World).

Last year, there wasn't any major Disney BD releases between The Pirate Fairy in April and the August wave of Disney BD releases (Tarzan, Hercules, etc.). That was a really long summer without any new Disney BD releases on the general market, and I suspect since Frozen was doing pretty well somehow it caused Disney to push some catalog BD releases toward August (either to spread out BD sales, meet Technicolor's production schedules, etc.)

Still, with a Diamond Edition title, it's pretty much certain to be a October release. But we see if the October 13 release date sticks (I think it will).

That was a good "Dude". I used it to emphasizing my interest in a Digibook release for the film.
