Is there a list like this that only takes the film into account, not packaging or extras? I'm just looking for something simpler.

This one takes all of the above into account.

That's his point, he wants one where ONLY the film is taken into account, so it is easier to browse. Not saying you should do that, just saying your answer isn't addressing his question.

So how would he limit that? Just by region? A movie may be out-of-print by a particular studio but available in an inferior print like "Memento." This is the best way for collectors to prioritize their pursuits. HD Goofnut has kept the list up nicely by studio. Not sure what the beef is if you know how to read and scroll???

I also have them marked to indicate if they have been re-released or fetch a high price.

This isn't my debate so you should ask him, but I know from casually looking at the list a lot of stuff on it is solely about limited edition packaging. 90% of people don't care about packaging, so it would make sense he'd want a list just about the movies.

Granted when it's about packaging the list specifies as such, so it's not really a complaint I understand, but I was trying to clarify someone else's complaint, not my own.

Really? "90% of people don't care about packaging?" Can you substantiate such an outrageous statement? Is that why the studios continue to put out so many special editions with, you know, digibooks, steelbooks metal packs, slipcovers, lenticular slipcovers and over-the-top, speciial edition boxsets with worthless trinkets....REALLY???

If that was true, why wouldn't they put the discs in a plain case with the title printed at the top. I'm so tired of some of the frequent posters trying to regulate the conversation. If YOU don't like or have interest in the packaging, FINE throw the slipcovers in the trash and allow those who cherish packaging as part of the collecting experience their joy. It doesn't make them any less or any more a film enthusiast than you and some of the usual suspects in these threads.. Some of you guys act like anti-packaging thugs, hell bent on criticizing and mocking people who simply experience joy when they find that elusive slipcover, digibook, steelbook or metalpak.

Just last year I got back into collecting after foolishly selling off much of my collection. One of my first purchases was a mint copy of the "Planet of the Apes - 40 Year Evolution" boxset. I had just previously purchased the lackluster rerelease with that horrendous plain finger-painting art. But finding that set with the meticulously designed case and art book brought tears to my eyes. I swiftly traded in the bare-bones release. If you can't understand that experience you should really be downloading digital files.

Not everyone sees life through your lens. I would caution you not to make comments that are obviously discounted by the overwhelming evidence that surrounds you. A few loud-mouthed vocal critics do not represent the overall buying public. That my friend, is why companies spend millions on marketing and packaging—they are looking to motivate PURCHASES. I am off to order that umpteenth release of "Goodfellas," with that new transfer and that beautifully executed packaging (with Joe Pesci on the back cover)

Wow. How about this...some people don't care about packaging, (does the % really matter)?

I think he was just expressing an interest in knowing which titles were OOP in all versions and thus very difficult to acquire in any form at a reasonable price.

Wouldn't you agree this could be useful to some who just want to acquire a copy of a movie but do not care about the packaging?

YES. So thread search or create a thread. This thread was created by HD Goofnut. Maybe he might want to take the time to indicate alternative versions currently available. When you type a title into the search bar here at Blu-ray.com you can pretty much find all versions of a movie released not only domestically but internationally. It doesn't take much effort. I do it daily as I search to quickly fill in the gaps of my collection. There is no debate here.

Of course some people don't care about packaging—I never said there weren't. Scroll up and read what I wrote again. There is thread after thread talking about every iteration of the most popular films. I would wager that even the most anti-slipcover individual would purchase a disc with art and a nice package than a plain silver disc in a non-descript case.

And some people will buy ANYTHING and EVERYTHING on Blu-ray without any discriminating taste whatsoever. Do I care? Nope. They are motivated by size of collection and not much more. So they dive into every dollar store and dump bin across the retail spectrum to just add more titles they don't own. Does that bring them joy? Probably.Do I care? Nope.

The search bar has certainly been a lifesaver for me in the last few years. I use it constantly for all of my lists and databases.

I appreciate it. It's usually not that bad once I get the base list down. Sometimes the slipcover list can give me a headache, but I still make sure it gets done.

Actually, the site already indicates whether a title was released with a slipcover in the intitial run. You probably could just indicate that information in your first post.

Anybody that wants just the movie breakdown can just c&p Goofnut's fine lists and edit out those which don't pertain to exclusive packaging. Won't take much effort. What does take a lot of effort though is compiling and maintain these lists and I for one am very grateful. Always better to have a more comprehensive base list from which others can take or leave as they wish.

Personally, I respect HD Goofnut for starting this OOP Blu-ray thread and all the things that the member has done for this forum. It would take many hours and many days of time and effort to do the things that HD Goofnut has done that benefit the members of this forum.

Sorry HD Goofnut, I apologize, I didn't see that all those posts had been removed. I'll retract my offer because I don't want the thread to go in the wrong direction or start something that's not what the thread is all about. I hope that my apology is accepted. I was just trying to get things going back in the right direction. Sorry

No problem at all sir. It's hard to hold a grudge on the internet and I'm not even sure how some do it.
