Justice League Unlimited is missing some things as well from the season set DVDs, a featurette from the complete series bonus disc, and maybe something from a "soccer mom" release. I'd honestly have to check to be sure.

BTAS is also missing a few things as well.

The 2008 complete series set had a new featurette on the exclusive bonus disc called "Shades of the Bat: Batman's Animated Evolution" that covered Batman in animation from the Filmation cartoon up to 2004's The Batman and ran about 23 minutes.

The second "soccer mom" DVD (Tales of the Dark Knight) included a nearly 6 minute featurette called "Voices of Gotham City" which included brief (possibly older, repurposed) interviews with Kevin Conroy, Andrea Romano and Bruce Timm. On top of that, there were four episode introductions featuring Timm for the episodes on the disc which are nowhere to be found on the Blu-ray.

On the third of these "soccer mom" releases (Out of the Shadows), there are another four episode introductions which are missing from the Blu-ray.

The fourth of theses DVDs (Secrets of the Caped Crusader) had a pop up trivia track that you could play over "Heart of Ice" which never made its way over the the Blu-ray.

So, BTAS is actually missing 2 featurettes and 8 episode introductions, but those are honestly not nearly as informative as the missing Superman content.
Batman Beyond is actually missing one extra, an easter egg from Season 1 - "Smells Like Creamed Spinach" featurette (03:06). Bruce Timm talks about choosing the intro music and then you get a music video for the original song that ended up being used for the theme song.

That's not true. The DVD Complete Series has all of the extras including the commentaries. They literally threw in the exact same discs from the volume sets (Including the dreaded flipper discs) and added a bonus disc with the new featurette. Unless there was a re-release that omitted them, they should all be on the Complete Series DVD set.

I totally forgot about that easter egg! Thanks!

Yep, all this is accurate. WB used the same discs for the original complete series set. In 2018, they pressed new single sided DVDs which omitted the commentaries if I'm not mistaken. There was a 6 disc complete series DVD in 2018 that used those DVDs if I'm not mistaken.

They aren't. I checked with my local library.

And missing the commentaries is so frustrating. I wound up just creating audio files out of the ones on my old DVDs.

Default Future DCAU (Timmverse) Blu-rays

It would be cool if Gotham Girls, Lobo: web series, and Static Shock will be on Blu-ray, I hope for it. Fingers Crossed!

I just finished watching Superman TAS Bluray set over the last 2 weeks.

Picture quality: Very good imo. The mage is still 4:3, but the sharpness/color is excellent. It is on par with Batman TAS. There are a few seconds of "soft" images on the first Parasite episode in Season 1, but overall 9/10

Sound: The DCAU has some of the better sound reproduction for older shows in stereo. The orchestral music is great and the sound effects especially explosions sound better than some modern 5.1 releases theyve put out. 9/10

Packaging: A little simple , but functional. It is a slightly bigger standard bluray packaging with multiple spindles to hold the 6 discs. The discs are silver withthe same image of Supes and just the disc number being different. There is a small booklet with Episode listings and the digital code slip. Normally the "papers" slide into a clip on the inside left but since there is a disc there, youhave to take out the papers to access disc 1. 7.5/10

Special Features: Unlike Batman TAS, I never had Superman TAS on DVD so I cant do an exact comparison.

This release has 4 episode commentaries (1 being a video commentary) and 6 featurettes (1 is a new 30 min special. The others are carried over from the DVD release in the mid 2000's.)

There are some issues with the commentaries.

1) There are only 4. I wouldnt have known , but when checking reviews on Amazon for the DVD complete version, there were 11 total commentaries, but only 4 are presented here. I dont know if they had a smaller team making this and it was accidentally forgotten or what. Batman TAS Bluray had all 12 commentaries that were recorded for the DVD releases.)

2) When you play the commentaries, it plays it over a Standard Def version of the episode, not the HD. Most commentaries Ive listened to on both DVD and BD are separate audio tracks like having diff language. I can understand them doing this for the video commentary, but its recorded video and audio, but this is just bizarre.

3) 1 featurette seems to be missing from the DVD releases. Overall: 7/10

OT, but it feels weird that Superman TAS never got its own movie set in this continuity. Batman and B. Beyond had 1-3 movies

Show itself: Supes is a great action adventure show with great animation/stories/voice acting.

I love how they still tried to do the sympathetic /psychologically twisted villain from Batman with Toyman/Bizarro. Lois was great.

I loved how they featured many other DC heroes throughout the run: Bats/Flash/GL/Aquaman/Dr Fate/Legion of superheroes etc.

Two-face and Mr Freeze were my favorite villains in Batman, and Brainiac is mine for Superman TAS.

The design /voice/backstory - all excellent! Luthor is second.

My favorite eps: Last son of Krypton, Stolen Memories,Brave New Metropolis, Fun and Games, Apokolips Now, The Late Mr. Kent, Little Girl Lost, Unity, Legacy

I only have a few criticisms:

I didnt find the Parasite episodes that interesting, even his origin.

I wish Jimmy Olsen would have had more effect on the plot. Other than the first Parasite epi, the Supergirl intro 2-parter, , and the "pal" episode I feel he was underused.

I know this is mostly an action show, but I wish Lois would have either softened her feelings towards Clark towards the end or learned supes identity at some point.

Its strange that she learns Bats identity before supes lol.

I wished Steel could have figured into the final 2-parter somehow.

I would give the show itself a 8/10

IMO.

Batman TAS/Justice League - 9/10

Batman Beyond - 7.5/10

The bluray itself is 7.5 due to the commentary mess ups.

I received this set yesterday, and found when I tried to mux the commentary from Last Son of Krypton Part I that the SD version is 29.97fps while the HD is 23.976fps. There are occasional gaps in the recording where the participants are silent and the episode audio is heard; I found that trying to sync the dialogue with the visuals in one place would create inconsistencies elsewhere. That's when I checked the frame rate and discovered the differences.

Just started watching my U.K. release (which I assume uses the exact same discs as the US) and when I came to episode 4 “Fun and Games” I noticed that the whole image was zoomed in and it stayed like this throughout.

I haven’t seen anyone else comment on this episode Bering zoomed in so must assume it’s some weird quirk with my Blu-Ray player but it’s very odd.

I just checked the DVD and BD and you are correct. The BD is zoomed in compared to the DVD. In looking at the same scene on HBOMAX it looks like that one is zoomed in even more then the BD.

One show that will most likely not get a hd release or blu ray is the zeta project.

Seems I have stumbled upon an issue previously unnoticed, hope no others are affected.
