Are the space exteriors all in 'IMAX' on that version? I don't mean whether they're embiggened or cropped, but are they all 'filling the screen' rather than being letterboxed?
Makes me wonder that although the planet-bound exteriors shots were all meant to be 'IMAX' and were always shot/finished that way, did they have the same intent for the space exteriors? They may have finished them in 'scope and then decided after the fact to have them fill the IMAX screen, hence that version being a crop rather than vertically embiggened. |

Saw it again in IMAX (Widescreen version) (versus 1.43 or the Scope 4K). This time the screen was better focused (the previous one the subtitles were focused :/) and there was no EXIT sign flare falling on the screen. As said above, the IMAX scenes are a mix of pan/scan and "opened matte" shots of the the Scope presentation ones. One thing the worm standing worked better cus it was bigger (taller).
That sfx shot was kind of like this in that screen: ![]() vs ![]() Now I want an edition with both (or 3, or 4, 1.43/1.75/1.90/2.39 ) versions. With 3D, 6 or 8! It is by will alone I save physical formats.

I would love that but I think only one of Zimmer's works has been released in a high-res audio format and that was a live concert, not a soundtrack.

That’s weird because I swear I’ve seen that shot on social media with the top of the worm visible

This was a strange one. I felt like it was a very successful adaptation, but it didn't work as a film, if that makes sense. After seeing it, I was puzzled why Villeneuve didn't just adapt it as a TV series. It would have given it more shape if it was broken up and parceled into single hour long episodes, each with their own arcs and narrative structure.
As it is, the film just seems to stop mid-sentence. The LOTR movies went to great strides to build arcs into each film, so that they each feel like seperate movies, rather than parts of one big movie. This film didn't really do that, which was its biggest problem for me. It was a big risk making it this way as it very much plays like half a film, and given that it is a film, there was no guarantee a sequel would ever be made. I know Villeneuve has franchise ambitions, but I'm skeptical we'll get to Dune Messiah, much less the rest of the series. If he keeps this pace up it will take 12 films. Although, I do hope he gets through at least the trilogy, as I'd really like to see the second and third books adapted on a big budget. |
