I would perhaps say that does look like it might be from a brand new scan…?

Maybe they did a new 4K DCP?

If somebody told me this was fan restoration of a release print or trailer I'd believe it, very filmic but the colors seem too cold and contrasty.

All my BR UHD titles look dark to me, compared to the BR version.

Then something is wrong with the settings on your display or player.

So after looking at the clips in the trailer and comparing them to the UHD, it does look like a regrade. I'm not seeing anything filmic in the trailer though (only getting a 1080p option and it's compressed to hell) so I'm not getting my hopes up. It could just be the UHD master with sharpening/DNR and a color filter to make it look prettier for advertising purposes. Lord knows that there's nothing appealing about the grade on the UHD as is.

It's the same trailer edit for the 3D re-release in 2013 but looks different. Not sure what to make of it, seems fishy that they would reconstruct the exact same trailer (sans titles) from a new scan.

Yeah, I looked at some of the other trailers on the channel and it seems like they regrade and digitally process the footage themselves.

This literally means nothing when we don't know what TV (and player) you have.

Thanks, I think one problem is that my TV is one of the early 4K TV's and it can't produce the visual dynamic range of newer ones. It's a Sony XBR-75X900E. My player is an Oppo 203.

The worst example is with Dune. When I played the UHD disc, everything was just dim and no shadow detail. With the Blu-ray, it was much better. However, I'm not good with optimizing the settings, so maybe 4K discs can look better.

No maybe about it, your equipment is the issue not the format.

So, are you saying the problem is the TV, the Oppo 203, or both?

That used to be my primary TV (now in the bedroom), and that was not my experience with it. I do think some settings may be playing into what you're seeing. Now, I don't think the TV is perfect with super dark content because of how the backlight system works. It can either crush or elevate black levels too highly. I did actually boost the Black Level setting to 51 to help mitigate this, but that was on my specific unit when using the Disney WOW "calibration" disc. Otherwise, it has very good brightness capabilities, especially fullscreen.

I do think the Dune disc pushes black levels pretty hard and, admittedly, I haven't viewed it on the x900e.

The difference with HDR and SDR is that, although mastered at 100 nits, SDR will play at whatever you currently have your brightness settings set to. Then there are additional boosting settings that can further elevator brightness. That doesn't mean it is accurate or that you're not blowing out parts of the screen. With HDR, these are often fixed values. There are still settings (like contrast enhancer) that can boost/alter these values, but the values themselves are fixed. So if they set brightness in a scene to 80 nits, it's 80 nits unless you tamper with it. The only exception is when the brightness value exceeds your TV's capability and the TV then uses its own tone-mapping algorithm to compensate. Each manufacturer does this differently.

The colors are way different than a release print (at least compared to any typical release print).

Jurassic Park 3D Trailer | Jurassic World - YouTube
the colors on this one are getting somewhat closer to release print colors, although still seem a fair bit different

Hi! I want to decorate my home cinema room with a print from Jurassic Park. I have the 4k version, but am unable to take a screenshot of the movie since I don't have a 4k player for my pc. Is there anyone who could help with a good quality screenshot of this scene? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x-R...ew?usp=sharing or this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wrn...ew?usp=sharing

Those are CGI scenes so resolution isn't the highest.

Should be two separate boxsets, one called Jurassic Park and one called Jurassic World. Don't understand the collectors who always need to have a master boxset of EVERYTHING.
