I guess the only way to actually get what you paid for is to get an HDCP stripper box, run a second computer to one with an HDMI HD capture card to a fast RAID HD with lots of free space and then bring it into Premiere Pro and compress it with Cineform or AVC. Ridiculous. That is what we paid $8 for? |

Very excited about this release -- and it's great to feel this way about a Star Wars flick again. I feel like I did when I was a kid, waiting for each Star Wars VHS tape to come out!
I'm working away from home -- and away from my home theater -- for another MONTH, but the blu-ray I'd ordered in January was delivered at my house today… so my wife (god love 'er) immediately opened it up and called me with the "digital copy" code. I'm now downloading from iTunes and looking forward to seeing this my hotel room. Knowing this scenario would happen, I brought along an HDMI cable and Mac adaptor so I can hook up my laptop to the hotel TV. And all the while, I've got a physical blu-ray waiting for me in my home theater back home. That's the true beauty of these multi-format combo packs! Good fun. |

I promised the wife I'd watch it tomorrow night with her and the kids on our night off. But I'm so tempted to watch it tonight. She doesn't care if I do as long as we watch it tomorrow. Just scared I won't feel like watching it again tomorrow, but at the same time it's STAR WARS!

its disappointing there is no commentary track. would totally double dip to hear/learn more in depth from JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan.
This release feels a little bare bones compared to what is usually included in Star Wars home releases. We all know our there will be countless trilogy/complete saga box sets in the future, im sure oozing with new documentaries, behind the scenes etc. There's something about owning star wars in every format and every release I'm okay with vs other franchises. |

Thanks to those who posted about the $5 off for Disney points deal (I've never used those things for anything) as there wasn't anything on the Disney site, not that I would have thought to look. Also for highlighting that the ebay.target price was $16.99 as I didn't even know they had such a thing and wouldn't have thought the price would be different than target.com.
Walked out of Target with standard case for $11.99. Feel much better about that knowing I will buy another edition. Wanted to get the bestbuy steelbook but I couldn't' justify an additional 40% over the standard 19.99 price, especially as I know I'll be rebuying when the 3d and/or UHD release comes out. |

I know what you mean I have it on DVD individually, I have the OT lunch box set and the 6 film bluray set, and all the steel books.

My edition also came wtih the stacked discs (one of the discs was even floating inside the case - but no scratches). I just solved the problem by placing it in a 3 disc case (one with a tray) of a lesser Blu-ray I have. Sure, I lose the Black case, but I got the tray now.

They also just may not give it any thought. Most people (ie: people who don't hang out here) aren't likely to care that much what the case is like. Or maybe they just like messing with folks. ![]() |

Amazon order here. Recessed Blu-ray logo. Stacked discs. Dammit. Luck of the draw. I usually don't get all caught up in the different editions, exclusives, artwork, etc., discussions because as long as the movie plays and I have a box to store it in while not in use—I'm a happy camper. But I detest these stacked disc cases (and thankfully I do not have too many of them). I felt like I was nearly going to break the discs bending them while prying them out of the case.
I'm usually not a digital code redeemer either. I probably have 30-40 movies of which have (had) codes in their cases but I just never have used them. I redeemed this one because I wanted to see the one "bonus" digital deleted scene. Worked pretty well through Disney Movies Anywhere. And, it was easy to link up my Amazon account. However, I can't seem to get iTunes to cooperate and it's probably because I'm still using the late great version of 10.7 (because I think 11 and 12 just have stupid interfaces and too many automatically-connected-to-the-Apple-Cloud "features". Especially in lieu of being able to view high definition album artwork in its own window and in the sidebar.) I'm sure if I upgraded iTunes with the Cloud I could get DMA to connect but it's not that big of a deal if I play it through DMA and Amazon. Otherwise, great release. I really like and prefer the standard edition black slipcase for a black amaray case (stackable though—augh!) with the original movie poster artwork. That seems to be a rarity these days and so I'll take it with this first release of The Force Awakens. I'm sure all future releases—including the expected 3D version—will use some other Photoshop abomination for their covers just to differentiate the editions. Nice artwork on the discs themselves as well. Here's to an evening of watching Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey and the feature itself! Cheers, everybody! ![]() Last edited by fontcow; 04-06-2016 at 12:48 AM. |
