Thank you for literally making me laugh out loud.

Your little analysis of the film does not touch on anything of what it is really about or what makes it work or not work. It is simply something that you think doesn't work without giving any real proof.
No, my "analysis" is perfectly valid. Sometimes glaring flaws need only be addressed in broad strokes. If you actually read (or comprehended) what I wrote you would know I wasn't nitpicking the film. I was addressing a massive and apparent flaw that affects the entire film. I'm sure there are little tiny flaws peppered throughout the film (is is a Christopher Nolan film after all) but I can't be bothered to dissect a film that isn't worth revisiting due to the flaws I've adequately explained.

Agreed. Except for the bit about Fincher doing the next Batman... Not sure if he would mix well with that world.

Personally, The Prestige is my favourite Nolan film. I've seen them all except his short film. And I'm a comic book nerd with the Bat-family being my favourite material, so not picking one of his batflicks is saying something.

But since when did he become director royalty? He definately isn't on the same scale as Fincher, Scorcese, Kubrick, Spielberg, Burton, or Scott. (Yes, I said Burton. He changed things in 1989. Forever.)

I'd put him somewhere with Guy Ritchie, Steven Soderberg, Bryan Singer, and maybe James Cameron.

He's definately far and above Michael Bay... But who isn't?

You mean to say he's a talentless hack (well Lock Stock isn't half bad).

...and Soderbergh's a genius.

I was more or less saying he is hit and miss.

And come on, Snatch and Rocknrolla are damn good. And I must give his producer some credit for the films Kick Ass and Layer Cake (which got Craig the Bond job).

And about Soderbergh... The Ocean's Trilogy = Gold. Magic Mike and Traffic = Poop. That's all I can rate on him because that's all I've seen. That's why he is hit and miss, like the others I mentioned him with.

Since when is Fincher worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as Kubrick or Scorcese?
Wait, stop the presses. I think I'm onto something: cinema just might be completely bloody subjective

I guess I sit somewhere in the middle - and I go flick by flick 'cause no director is good all the time. To illustrate my bent perspective : I loved Fincher's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but put Se7en up for sale. I love the Dark Knight series, but I thought Prestige, Insomnia and Inception were boring - despite loving the actors who were involved. But, that's just me - and I wouldn't waste a second trying to say that it's any more than my opinion (YMMV - and probably will).

Since I noticed I enjoy every one of his films to the point of multiple viewings in one sitting (sans the Alien 3 movie). I honestly cannot think of a director whose entire calogue of films I like and enjoy more than his. se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I even enjoy Panic Room (am I the only one who wasnt sure if the kid was boy or girl the whole time?). He just makes great films.

Who would you rather me of said: Kevin Smith and Ivan Reitman?

But it doesn't occur to you that someone may enjoy Nolan's films as much or more

Personally I rate Fincher and Nolan about the same... they're good directors but they haven't reached greatness in my book. Both are excellent technicians, but for me they lack soul.

Actually, let's take this out of the realm of speculation and see how each director fares on IMDB's top 250 list...

Nolan:
Memento - 34
Batman Begins - 104
The Prestige - 68
The Dark Knight - 7
Inception - 14
TDKR - 33

Fincher:
Se7en - 23
Fight Club - 10

I'd say Nolan takes the popular vote

Nolan's fans are known to manipulate the imdb scores or anything else they can flood with votes while sitting in front of their computers.

Those ratings simply prove that his fans like to vote on imdb more.

There's another factor. I'd say 60-70% of IMDB's posters/voters consists of 20-60 year old men. That gives a slant to superhero films for sure.

Alot of internet douches and think they know it alls hangout on IMDB. A cesspool the place really is. Wouldn't put much thought into the stuff that's said there.

This makes sense because I dont know anyone in my circles that likes TDKR more than the other two. There's no way it's as well liked as TDK.

They created hundreds of thousands of imdb accounts to do so? That seems rather unlikely.
Mind you, I think the imdb ratings are pretty silly, but it's hard to make a "definitive" case that Nolan isn't among the top mainstream directors working today.

This. When TDK came out, on IMDB it was higher rated than The Shawshank Redemption because 16 year old Nolan fanboys were rating it 10 stars and Shawshank 1 star.

That's a nice ad hoc hypothesis, anything to support it? The demographic breakdown seems to be about the same... in fact TDK seems to do better among older people than something like Fight Club...

It seems unlikely that anyone would threaten the life of the first critic to post a negative TDKR review on RT too, and it seems unlikely that "The Godfather" would drop two places on the IMDB top 250 within a couple days of TDK's release (at which point TDK hit #1) but all that happened. Because Nolan's fans are nuts.
