Maybe it was just the movie I went to, Dunkirk, they could have been having flashbacks to their past but I really don't want to hear some old lady say, "he's such a pretty boy, I would have f*cked him back in the day".

Agreed. My theatrical viewing of Moulin Rouge was ruined by two elderly ladies who arrived very late and kept talking loudly throughout.

I've never run into any issue with older crowds. It's always the young crowd giggling and yapping away and fiddling with their phones.

I've had quite a few experiences ruined by 55+ year old people including what I can only assume was a senile old British lady during the Billy Wilder/Charles Brackett retrospective at my local art house.

Considering I lost track of how many versions I have already (I think 5 on Blu alone)
I have to gamble that this will be released in a more affordable form.
I really can't afford this hobby in the first place.

The anamorphic lenses used on the film cause focus and stretching issues on the edges of the frame and this is readily noticeable in many shots, but I've never noticed any center frame focus problems in Suspiria.

I have more trouble with older crowds at arthouse theaters. They always babble on and on, and will loudly complain during the movie. With biger movies, and horror movies I have more trouble with teens opening weekend.

I just take a half day at work for movies I'm really interested in and then go to the noon or 1pm showings. I've found that the theater is almost always near empty at that time and so it's like my own private showing. I saw It this way with my wife on opening day. Maybe 8 people total in the theater.

This will be my first time, so I'm not minding as much. Don't get me wrong, $80 is a lot, but thankfully I don't buy expensive movies like this very often.

It's the modern audiences. They don't allow films to be of their age. They don't allow anything to escape their (in their own head) clever MST3K-esque superiorities.

It's why I just avoid revival showings. People just can't help but show how they're smarter than the film. I think watching people laughing constantly throughout Halloween (1978) was my last straw.

That’s sad about Halloween. I don’t get how people would think these movies are funny. You are right about the MST3K remark. It’s so much easier to act that way than use your imagination and become engrossed in the movie.

I was lucky, took my wife to see Halloween years ago at local theater that plays it every year. It’s her favorite horror movie. The audience was small and pretty silent throughout the movie.

I like the Alamos don't be an idiot policy, seems to work well unless it's a specific quote/sing a long showing.

When The Exorcist-The Version You've Never Seen was released in theaters several years ago I remember reading posts about how audiences were laughing their heads off. Thankfully, when I saw it at my local multiplex the audience didn't treat it like an Adam Sandler flick. (Is he even still considered funny?)
This is why I'm kinda hesitant about seeing Suspiria in a theater. I think I will try to see a matinee showing, hopefully there will be fewer boneheads in attendance.

I agree and it's disheartening. Though I saw Star Trek II:The Wrath of Khan theatrically a couple weekends ago and the theatre was 2/3 full and everyone was very well behaved. The crowd laughed only when they were supposed to. Everyone seemed very into the film, and it was clear there were a few first-time viewers sitting near us.

Landmark Bethesda to a tee, and I thought teenagers were annoying

These (and other) reasons are why I've pumped so much money into my home theatre.

Don't get me wrong, kudos to what is probably an awesome home theater set up you've got. I'm most certainly jealous. But no degree of annoying audience members could ever get me to reject the theater going experience in favor of me watching it at home.

I feel you though. Audiences do suck. Saw "mother!" this week, and while by no means a great film...it was very atmospheric and it wasn't teenagers that wouldn't stop talking throughout the whole movie, it was fully grown adults!! If I could do it all again, I might have chose to just wait for the blu ray.
