Bummer the streaming version (lossy DD+) is still the only way to hear the native Atmos mix of Fallen Kingdom.

The disc is a remix since home DTS:X isn't compatible with theatrical DTS:X

We are getting both trilogies-- released separately.

Only JP1 will be getting DV which I really don't understand. Do the other two as well. All films will get the ATMOS upgrade at least.

It has not been confirmed that only JP is getting Dolby Vision, so people should stop getting their knickers in a twist, wait for the official announcement.

There's no way the original film has a proper remaster this time around. That would be too good to be true.

But then at the same time, why would they go to the trouble of remastering in DV/DA if they were just going to recycle the transfer? I understand the disc re-authoring to fit the special features, but still.

Even Bill Hunt doesn't seem to know at this time, darn.

Maybe I'm just being too optimistic here, but I feel the fact that it's just the first movie getting it bodes well for something new/better. Otherwise, if it was just done with minimal effort, why not just slap DV onto the other two as well?

Weird that Lost World and JP3 aren't getting DV tho, I mean they're having to reauthor the discs anyway. But maybe those two are the same transfers as before and are just being ported across with the bonuses, while JP is actually a new transfer. Universal don't usually put 'newly remastered' on the back for nothing, it's interesting that for the JW trilogy they've put 'newly reformatted' instead, those three being DI-finished. But why remove DV from Fallen Kingdom (assuming the preliminary specs are correct)? **** it, I'm buying these anyways. Won't sell my existing discs just yet however.

NOW REDO THE BOURNE IDENTITY YOU COWARDS!!!

I absolutely hate Sony's method of pushing new and improved almost definitive (half the time) discs on steelbooks that are limited and never in standard editions..

But I'm not gonna act like I surely wouldn't still shell cash for a lot of movies of major studios that deserve proper improvements.. or even to just add Dolby Vision alone+better compression.

It's not that I don't like new and improved discs even if it means rebuying again, I just hate the ''gatekeep'' and FOMO method they go with it.

I'd sell all your souls for Apollo 13 redone with a beefy new encode + DV. 30th anniversary this year too.

I don't like the method either but I do understand it, that if they're going to the bovver of doing new discs then they wanna make sure they sell, and a proper limited run is one way of doing it. Keep the previous disc in print for the casuals and have the reauthored one for the true believers.

It's strange how it seems only Sony has figured out that the best way to get people to rebuy things again is to actually do new things, improve encode, add original audio or missing Dolby Vision, etc. And people will go for it hard, while others just reissue the same thing over and over.

I honestly don't have a list of movies I'd want revisited, but there's probably a lot.

I mean, most studios have made a career out of re-releasing the same discs over and over and over again, Sony could just as easily have put all those redone movies out with just the old discs in a new steelbook and 'collectors' would still have bought them. But they thought 'hell with it, let's actually give people what they want at the same time' and have added OG audio, burnt in subs, DV, betterer compression, more extras or all of the above, and people are loving it. I'm not surprised that other studios might've picked up on this tactic, universal and Sony have long had close ties. Now we just need Warners to realise the potential of this before the 45th anniversary of Brade Runnah, I'm still hoping for new encode + DV + OG 2007 audio for The Final Cut.

I sure wish Universal would also take this opportunity to throw the original 5.1 tracks for the "Park" trilogy on there, especially since the first film's original mix is such a historically significant one.

But still, DV should help the picture out, even if it's not a complete overhaul. I guess we'll see. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It is true some studios are picking up on it, albeit veeeeery, veeeeery very slowly or not fully embracing it at all. But I'm saying it's being noticed and embraced because Lionsgate seems to be on that board as well. It's a similar tactic to Sony as well; put new discs on pricey expensive limited steelbooks.. that are exclusive, but I mention this because they, for example, added old extras and original audio, which Sony has also done sometimes (not always).. Universal seems to be doing it but it's slim pickings and Warner hasn't done it at all yet. Disney at least is now embracing full on with Dolby Vision. Now that's another studio I'd love to buy DV reissues for..

The Sugarland Express wasn't THAT bad, I'm not gonna act like it's PERFECT or even notably good, but not THAT bad as you describe it as if it was garbage. I'd have prefered the movie having noisy grain as well, but other than that, it still looks pretty watchable and a far cry from other disasters, IN MY OPINION. Could've been worse.

The Back to the Future thing is a hoax, and it's the same thing but just formatted to IMAX. As for those 4Ks... they also weren't that bad? They were miles better than what was before, but it could be better, specially more consistent.
