I ask that because with my external back-up drive, I find that I am using it periodically to add more stuff to it. I make it a point to test all of my hardware, especially computer and home theater, at least a couple times a year. I even play my VCR and cassette deck just to see if they are still fine. My Samsung SSD drives are between 3 and 4 years old now and so far they have worked flawlessly.

I talked about this earlier and definitely think there needs to be a poll about this topic. Here's what I came up, but not sure if I need to add anything else as a choice? Physical Disc or Digital: Physical Disc, Digital Copy, Both, Neither. Thoughts?

Steedeel did we shake your Funny Bone, you might as well face it Disc is Dead. Your report is from last year, things change fast and last years Stats are faint memories. I go into Best Buy all the time, and I'm usually the only one at the Movie Section.

Best Buy sells UHD TV's, Sound Systems, Computers, Cameras, Drones, and the list goes on and on. The Movie Section keeps shrinking, no one is there anymore. As for charging $5, that's all you guys want to pay even for Blu-rays and maybe $10 for UHD Discs. So don't blame anybody except yourselves for the Demise of Discs!

Put the rock down Billy Joel! Just because that's been your experience doesn't mean that's everyone else's experience. If it were, it wouldn't be catching some of us off guard that they'd consider getting rid of their media department. As far as cost? I don't care if it is physical or digital, I want to get the best price I can. The exception being store exclusives or when I see a movie with a slipcover. Even then, I'm using my shopsavvy app to see who has the best price to get a price match. I've also gotten some pretty great deals on codes here in the forum. I appreciate the sellers who don't expect me to pay for the cost of the BD they bought and are reasonable priced.

Why do you keep spouting this nonsense? I have just paid £700 for a huge amount of discs. Some were £15, some were £6, some were £19. Some of us care enough to want the best.

You sound like the guys who wrote trash back in 2013 about ITunes HD killing off Blu-ray for good.

When are you going to get it? Unless you are buying a collectors set or special edition, it’s easier to buy online. No fuss.

Well I was at my Best Buy today, and I asked one of the Associates about the Disc Movie Section. I told him some of their Stores were doing away with the Section. Our Store there has a good Section, and he said it was hard to believe they would do away with it. He said UHD TV's were selling very good, and they would need Movies to compliment those sales. What would people play on their TV's without Blu-ray Movies. So your Discs are safe for a while, but he also said that UHD Streaming was available. I also shop for the best prices, and Digital HD has been cheaper than Disc. Granted a lot has to do with Disc including HD Digital, but lately that has not been the case for some Movies and TV Shows. Maybe with MA they will start it up again, but I don't know if it adds or takes away from Disc sales.

Discs were always safe. As long as there are people like me who only want the best, they will have a place.

Knowing that your local Best Buy Associate and you have both concluded that discs are "safe for awhile" is such a relief. I'll sleep better tonight.

I will ask the guy in the electronics department at my local Wal-mart tonight about the status of digital and report back. Then we'll have the complete picture.

Best Buy Section is good, but it's not what it use to be, smaller now. I was at a function the other night, and asked people about watching Movies. No one goes to the Theater anymore, and buying Discs are way down on their list. Streaming from Netflix is always the common response. Like I said, I sell on eBay and I can't sell anything for more than $5 and that includes shipping. I was at Fry's Electronics, and they still have a big Movie Section but many Blu-ray Movies for $1....How can you compete with that. Discs may be around for a while, but no one wants to pay $30+ for them even if they are 4K!

I guarantee way way more people are streaming UHD than playing UHD discs

I picked up A Nightmare on Elm street there for $4.99 while it was $10 or more everywhere else . I already had it on VUDU due to d2d but I wanted a physical copy as well.

Did you learn this from the Fry's associate? The retail clerks in your area are fonts of wisdom! If you made this determination by yourself, please be careful: all of this hyperbole is gonna give you whiplash.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, box office revenue has mostly shown modest growth since 2008. You can see the chart at the link below. The $ amounts in this chart are in the millions, btw.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/

I know this is only one citation. I present it at the risk of running afoul of retail clerks everywhere.

And 2017 still has that little Star Wars movie coming up. A few people might go see it.

Physical media for the win, son. My UV/Digital collection is just a "bonus" for 2 reasons:

for me:
1. digital movies/UV/itunes/MA is for movies I "like", not love
2. i will buy the physical copy of movies i love - even if offered a free digital code
3. I will put in a physical disc into my bluray player i paid good money for, to watch on a nice hdtv that i paid good money for, instead of watching a lower quality digital copy.
4. too many variables control the quality of a streamed movie
5. the digital copy/uv/itunes/ma streaming model is still shaky (paramount and lionsgate thank you very much; sarcasm). Until EVERY studio gets behind 1 format, and the quality surpasses physical media, streaming will never take over
6. the digital copies i only use so often, 2 or 3 times a month maybe. where i put in a physical disc almost every night

Anyone here have both the physical Bluray of the 30th Anniversary edition of a "The Right Stuff"and the digital copy and can tell me the difference in quality if any?

I have the digital copy already but contemplating getting the disc since it's on sale for under $9.

Inflation. Everyone knows less people are going to the movies than before.

This summer was the worst in terms of tickets sold since 1992. (per Forbes, and not some pimpled faced retail geek)
