Are you kidding? That film has made her a very wealthy woman. She basically got scale up front, but had a very nice back-end deal, and given how successful it was, made more money on that one picture than she likely has made in the past decade or two combined in movie salaries.

Why do you think she so incessantly promoted it (she was on every Tom Dick and YouTuber's channel talking about it for hours and hours on end for weeks at a time)?

Don't get me wrong, I adore JLC, but her participation in the whole Halloween 2018 (and 2020, 2021) endeavor has been just as much, if not more, about her finally getting a piece of the Halloween financial pie than telling the "trauma" story.

As to Scream 5 - bring it on. I've loved them all, and as long as it is in series continuity, I am game for whatever they might do.

Yep, they're totally gonna pull the "Ignore the 'bad sequels' and pick up directly from the first" Halloween shit again (and the Halloween franchise did that twice! ).

Well Neve confirmed in an interview that there IS a script already so that’s promising news that they can move fairly quickly into production (whenever it is safe to do so). Would love to start hearing some casting news in the coming months so we can get a feel for the variety of characters they are going to have in the movie.

Honestly, Scream and Scream 2 were my fave of the series due to the perfect blend of horror and comedy. There was humor and funny things happened - however, when shit got real it was always terrifying and never played for laughs. Scream 3 and Scream 4 leaned a little too far into the comedy (for example, characters making funny remarks as they were about to be killed or being killed - the first two movies did nothing like that and that’s why they worked so much better in my opinion).

I just want likable, well-written characters who I will be sad to see die and a strong, meaningful story arc for Sidney that fits in line with her character. Dewey and Gale should be involved in some respect but honestly I don’t think they need to be as heavily involved as Sid.

I sure hope not. I can't stand that crap. It alienates the people that enjoy those films, and it makes a total mess of the franchise. Just look at Terminator... rebooted and retconned TWICE.

It turns off the "casuals" too. My Mom has always liked the Halloween films, and went back and watched all the JLC ones before this one (she actually really likes H20). She was very disappointed when she went to the theater because unless you knew the "trick" going in, it isn't explained very well and she doesn't keep up with news about movies, etc. She was utterly confused.

I think it would have been one thing if they had just erased everything after II, instead of after the original. The brother/sister thing is just too much a part of the canon now to pretend it didn't exist. And frankly...it makes everything much more interesting, IMO, as well.

It could be worse. They could've tried to do what Rob Zombie did to the franchise.

I prefer the sibling angle as well. Always liked it, even though it didnt make much sense. And I knew that there would be people confused about the movie.

But luckily, I enjoyed H18 a lot and I can see why they made the decisions that they did. I'm dying to see Halloween Kills and would be devastated if it gets delayed another year. I would gladly pay for the VOD if it gets to that point.

It may turn some people away yes but On the other end you have people who are not interested in following up in the franchise and or don’t care we had scream 4 which was a direct sequel but didn’t set the BO alite the die hards were there but that’s not enough for the studios at the end of the day other wise we would have gotten that planned scream 5

The clean slate direct follow up sequel was absolutely the right choice for the halloween franchise going forward it’s just too messy with that franchise

Scream is not bad at all it’s a franchise which has clear storylines with no major ****ups along the way BUUUUUT If Sidney is returning again as a main player her being stalked /chased/cause again for a 5th time seems utterly ridiculous unless it’s a retcon sequel that dives back into the serious slasher tone style of the first movie

I'm excited for this. Loved Ready or Not, so the film is in good hands. Love having Neve back. And I really enjoyed part 4. Would like to see Panettiere back as Kirby. She was a big highlight in part 4 and they left her "demise" pretty open ended if I remember correctly.

So I'm game!

I think they should go with the documentary angle this time that’s what is hot right now

A Documentry crew is filming about the woodsbro murders back in 97

Scream 2-4 never happened

Sidney has a couple kids now and hears a doc crew is in town looking for interviews with survivors or relatives

Once word get outs a killing happens and begins a chain of events that starts up all over again

Is it the documentary crew behind the killings to make the greatest one ever made or a crazed citizen /student

They definitely shouldn’t wipe out the sequels. The series isn’t as compromised as Halloween was. Ignoring the Halloween sequels worked for Halloween 2018 - I don’t feel like it’s necessary to do that with the Scream series.

Honestly, that would make the most sense, since they already did the sequel, trilogy, and reboot/remake trends, I can’t think of another trope to do. Though that might also suggest it is time to retire the series, in particular it seems wrong to make one without Wes Craven.

I don't want a sequel at all. Scream is my favourite movie, but I don't want to see yet another psycho target Sid, nor do I want to see her die, and I certainly don't want to see her become the killer! The original franchise was Wes and Kevin's baby and they should just let it rest at this point.

I would do a reboot with the killer(s) taking their cues from the Scream franchise itself to kill their friends in the 'real world'. It adds an extra layer of meta and you can change up the tone and style of the franchise.

True but if Sidney is the main player again and being the motive for the movie seems too much For a 5th time

The only way to me Sidney should return is if they wipe out the other sequels

Otherwise just leave neve behind and start completely fresh set in the same world but no direct links to past sequels

I just can't see what else there is to say. 4 already did the "comment on reboots" thing. They've returned to Woodsboro so there was the nostalgia play. Did the whole final girl as killer thing. What's left?

4 leaned into too much of the comedy of 3 for my tastes a fresh spin on the first movies scary serious style would do wonders for another sequel

No more stupid meta jokes as characters are dying that shit ruined 3&4
A little comedy like the first is ok but not when the serious shit is going down

You took the words right out of my mouth. The first and second movie balanced the humor and horror perfectly. The comedy was well placed but when things were scary they were scary. 3 and 4 literally had characters cracking jokes AS THEY WERE DYING OR BEING KILLED. That’s too far. I’m hopeful the new filmmakers can come at this with a fresh perspective and recognize what worked so wonderfully about the first two.
