Like I said, Amazon and Vudu have a Watched Section that works very well. Even MA has a Watched Section that works well, I have several Movies on there that I'm watching now. You Apple guys keep saying Fantastic things about iTunes, but keep bringing up troubles. I keep saying, Apple Clones as they line up for the iPhone 10 at $999, be the first to get it, just don't drop it because it will break very easyly!

I don’t do store purchases but we have HMV which is packed with Blu-ray, DVD, CD and Vinyl as well as some games.
Cudzndrips has videos he makes when he goes Blu-ray hunting from store to store. He just made a recent one in the group buy threads.
Ask and answered by Steedeel, gambit64. He doesn't live here, doesn't shop in stores, but has a clear opinion on how physical copies are the bees knees and digital is killing the market here in the United States. Meanwhile you have his mirror, mirror Doppelgänger, alchav21. Who equally believes that digital is the second coming. I can't take either one of them seriously because their experience are subjective.

Have you checked the Windows firewall settings for incoming connections on the iTunes server? That's usually the reason if the ATV doesn't find your library reliably. Both iTunes and Bonjour must be allowed to accept incoming connections.

Bonjour does not come with iTunes 12.7. Actually my Apple TV see's my PC on the network and the library on my hard drive as well but when I go load a movie it either sometimes continuously shows the loading circle and won't stop loading or gives me an error message after I click on play about unable to find content or something like that. Either a restart of home sharing on my Apple TV or exiting and restarting iTunes on my PC temporarily gets it working again. A server should be transparent to the user in the background and only be used directly for maintenance and updates or if you want to manually turn it off or on.

If you are implying that I don’t know what the store situation is because I use online shopping, I am in HMV a lot due to my job (I work with young people with special needs and my current client loves hunting for films)

By the way, isn’t everyone’s opinion/experiences subjective?

The Quality of my Digital Movies is Fantastic, so I am not stressed out at all. I think the stress is with the Disc Lovers, because they see Digital taking over. I still say it's all Digital, and the natural order is putting Movies on a Server. So you Stream from a Disc or you Stream from a Server.....You tell Me!
I wasn’t part of the group that discussed your previous tv.

I’m not stressed, my concerns are for long term and the future health of movies. I happen to believe Digital won’t be a good thing long term.

Yes it does (I'm assuming you are talking about the Windows version, on the Mac Bonjour is part of the OS). You need to allow incoming connections for "Bonjour Service" as well as iTunes in the Windows firewall. Also make sure that you set the rules for the right profile (Public/Private).

Given the choice the average moviegoer is more likely to go watch the latest Spider-Man than an original movie, even one getting good reviews. There's the element of the Spider-Man movie being an event something that they can discuss on social media and be a part of the in-crowd, how many average moviegoers are discussing Robert Pattinson's latest film?

Wow, couldn't disagree more. So going to see a movie at the theater is driven by a desire to be able to talk about it on Facebook? Many of us don't even use social media so it's hard to imagine that something so trivial to some people would be the driving factor for going to a movie? Is it happening? I surely wouldn't doubt it given how things are these days.

You mentioned a while back that you don't have shelf space for physical media and that you're selling your entire blu-ray collection. Almost each week you're changing your mind on sticking with digital movies or going back to physical media.

iTunes homesharing works perfectly fine on my Windows 10 PC and ATV4K. Try disabling IPv6 on your pc.

If you finally decide to go back to physical media, be prepared to have several movies including new releases that can't play or have issues with 4k blu-ray players. I had this happen when I tried out several 4k blu-ray players this year:
Sony X800 - freezing, audio dropouts, unable to read disc, streaming apps crashing
Oppo UDP-203 - audio dropouts, unable to read disc
Panasonic DMP-UB900 - AV lip-sync issue
Samsung k8500 and m8500 - handshake issue, loud disc drive noise
Xbox One S - video stuttering, color decoding issues, and loud disc drive noise.

Also if you decide to still go back to physical media, be prepared to pay at least $25 to $100 on unopened 4k movies due to the studios printing out a limited number of discs, but once in while you can buy an unopened 4k movie for about $15. If you buy a new disc and watched it, and try to sell it on eBay you'll get about $5 to $10 back after paying fees from eBay, postage, and PayPal. If you sell the movies to a store that buys and sells used movies, they might offer you about .50 cents to $2.00 or they may not accept the movie.

Most movie studios know that physical media is dying at a rapid pace. Most retailers are shrinking their physical media section on weekly basis. Digital media is growing at a rapid pace.

I wouldn't be surprised that most A/V manufacturers discontinue making 4k bluray players next year and start making pure 4k a/v streaming devices next year.

Did the Facebooks tell you that?

Blu-ray is dying that rapidly that it’s actually up sales wise year over year.
Digital is growing rapidly but that’s subscription like Netflix and Amazon NOT Digital HD Sellthrough. Last I checked Digital HD was single figures growth. Something like 9%. In the UK it’s even lower at 4%. Trust me, that’s not figures that are going to reassure the studios.
Finally, UHD Blu-ray is off to a very good start. If you think they are going to disappear by next year you are delusional.

Basically you entire post is bullshit imo. You do realise Blu-ray and DVD makes up a huge chunk of home video sales for this year right? Of course you don’t, you are still pretending that your make believe disc players aren’t working.

I just got my new Oppo 203 yesterday and my first 4K UHD disc arrives today. I am exploring a new frontier in physical media. 4K on disc is the only way I can even hope to watch 4K content here in the hinterlands.

4K UHD discs are the 6th physical format for me since I began collecting nearly 25 years ago. Every one of these formats still exist within my collection and are still playable. The necessary hardware still works. I am delighted with my physical library and I am looking forward to this new 4K UHD format.

Enjoy. I future proofed myself by buying Planet Earth 2 (BBC Nature) and Dunkirk in 4K. Getting the new Bladerunner also.

I started my 4K UHD collection with The Revenant, but I will add all of those titles you mentioned later. I am really looking forward to seeing Dunkirk on UHD. I have read on this site that Blade Runner 1982 has audio issues (low levels on dialog) except for the Atmos track, so that is a small concern as I am not Atmos capable yet.

Thanks for the heads up. Dunkirk looked stunning at the cinema so I can’t wait for that. Cracking film too. It’s going to look and sound amazing on 4K disc.

I don't have a player yet or 4K TV, but I have roughly 30 4K combo packs since they include the regular Blu-Ray anyway. I started doing that ever since the format launched. I have still purchased regular Blu-Rays for which there was no 4K option released at the same time, but I try to stick to doing this where applicable. Once I am ready to upgrade equipment, I'll have plenty of discs to watch.

It will probably be a good few years before I upgrade the 65 inch plasma (that I paid A LOT for just a few years ago) in my main living room, but I am planning on getting a spare bedroom that has essentially been a storage space set up as a gaming room within the next year. I'll probably get a new 4K TV for that room. Nothing super high-end, but hopefully decent quality while staying under $1,000. I'll probably go ahead and get a 4K player to go with it.

Sounds like a plan.

I have a different cabinet which is going to be devoted to 4K discs. Blu-ray will still have its pride of place as well. I still have my Panny plasma from years back. They are more than capable sets with great black levels as you will know.

I ordered the Oppo UDP-203 and ordered a few 4k movies. I'm looking forward to use it when it arrives to me next week.
Oppos are cracking machines. Never had a single issue with mine although I can’t yet vouch for 4K models. I use PS4 as a superb back up.
