Just a brief thought on the Cameron quotes he said "they have to appeal to 18-year-old males or 14-year-old males"

Come on James; that's a huge part of your audience when you made Terminator, Aliens and T2. No matter what their age ratings (18, 18 and 15 in the UK as I recall) I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw them when I was much younger and my inner teenager still loves them to this day (I'm almost 38).

My point being don't patronise a huge part of your own audience which is exactly how that remark came across.

Wonder Woman is a great film; Gadot nails the character; her interaction with Pine is pitch perfect and it has great production and some brilliant action scenes. It is important in that it finally gives the comic movie genre a film with a female lead (I'm looking at you Marvel and your 2 million plus films without one) but it works just as well as a fun summer popcorn movie and that's another reason its great you can look at it on both levels.

So let it be an empowering female led movie; let it be a summer blockbuster and let it be a great comic movie. Whatever level you enjoyed it on is what matters. Now bring on the sequel!

Supergirl, Catwoman, Sheena, Electra...

But I guess those movies are not successful enough for you to care or even acknowledge that they even exist. So, don't give pull that "important" bullsh** when it's been done before and being female/black etc lead does not make your movie automatically good.
I'm African-American and I don't look to go to the upcoming Black Panther movie for empowerment or even for entertainment. I do not plan on seeing it and personally, I do not care because we already had comic movies with black leads. This is nothing new but again, since they were not successful in their eyes, they fail to count, with the exception of Blade but even still, it's too old of a movie for most to even care.
For some, WW is what you are claiming it to be but for others, it's just another tired dime-a-dozen overhyped comic book movie that really bring nothing new to the table.

I could have phrased that part better but I didn't ignore any of those films deliberately. In fact I have a great affection for Supergirl (I own the OOP 2 disc Anchor Bay DVD and am still hoping for a release on Blu). Barring Sheena I have also seen the others you mention too. And I never implied that having a female lead automatically makes for a good movie, Catwoman and Elektra are proof of that. I laid out plenty of other reasons why in my opinion Wonder Woman was such a good movie. I'll repeat them here in case you missed them in my last post "Gadot nails the character; her interaction with Pine is pitch perfect and it has great production and some brilliant action scenes." I didn't even get round to mentioning the supporting cast; the music (not just Zimmer's newly iconic theme but Gregson-Williams score too); the way it switches effortlessly between coming of age tale; light hearted moments with Diana in London to the horrors of war when she reaches the front.

The reason my comments were focused on Wonder Woman were because I was relating it to the comments Cameron made and how he negates the fact that plenty of his own films are aimed directly as the same people he claims comic book movies appeal to.

Your point about comic movies being dime a dozen certainly has merit but they are the dominant genre right now, had this forum existed in the 60's people could have levelled the same criticism at Westerns; go back to the 30's and it was gangster movies. Every genre has its time; in ten years comic book movies maybe in the minority but they like all others deserve their time as the big hitters at the box office.

About having a female lead automatically making a good movie, there are some out there who actually believe that despite the fact that it isn't true. I didn't say that you believed it personally and apologies for the confusion.

I've always though Cameron's movies were aimed more for adults than anything else because many of the movie's he's made were mostly R-rated fare and/or aimed at adults or at least an older audience. Titanic was mostly marketed for adults but managed to get the teens/high schoolers on board as a bonus and movies like True Lies and T2, the 14 year olds are not even old enough to get in unless they sneak in or watch on video/cable.

Keep in mind, there are some movies even 14 year old boys won't see, even when its aimed at them.

Terminator - Adults.

Terminator 2....aimed at teens and the adults that supported the first one.
Kid lead, groundbreaking animated CGI villain, extra shoot-em ups.

Yeah, what's the betting that Black Panther will be hailed as "The first Marvel movie to feature a black lead!" the nearer it gets to release, just as folks were getting off on the new Star Trek being the first to have a black lead...completely ignoring Avery Brooks' 7-year tenure on DS9. If it happened 20 years ago....it never happened.

and as if this whole comic book film fad wasn't more or less kicked of by a black lead in a marvel film with a black female lead as well.

The world we are in is crazy and is choosing to simply ignore realities to back up what they want things to be.

Word of mouth is good but far from leading the pack.

Then Gone with the Wind would be the highest grossing film of all time, but inflation itself doesn’t account for the value of currency.

If the dollar suddenly was declared to equal $0.32 tomorrow that sounds bad but we’d all be on the same page so would it really matter?

Here we go again. Can't we just enjoy a movie and not care how much money it made?

Nods for Picture, Sound, Sound Editing, Costume Design, and maybe Production Design are all I can see it getting. VFX is a joke.

It has been a weak year for scores so far, maybe it could sneak in. But I wonder if using Zimmer's theme would affect its eligibility. The Academy can be weird like that, they'll let a Bond score that uses the old theme music liberally get nominated but then randomly disqualify stuff other stuff.

I doubt it, I can't ever see a CBM performance winning best actor or actress. Heath Ledger is probably as close as we will get.
