Well if you can name a better place in the world to live I would like to hear it. Yes the country has taken a turn for the worse but it still blows away any other options. I am sure we will hit rock bottom soon if not already and we will go back in the other direction.

It is sad to think that it would be a popular view to be anti-america. I understand that there are less people willing to put everything on the line for this country but I am in a line of work that sees many military deployments and many dedicated americans. I think the vast majority of those that bash us here and abroad are the ones that take for granted what is given to them by America. These are the same people that have not worked a day in their life and expect a welfare check. People that come here and contribute nothing but to further burden our society. Granted there are people that come here and do their part and work hard, pay taxes, contribute. There are also people that were born here and do the same things to burden us. This is all first hand knowledge not conjecture again based on my line of work.

There were ample opportunities to get the equipment ahead of time and they squandered that opportunity.

Sorry, but I have no sympathy.

Strike that - the only ones I have sympathy for are the senile homebound elderly on a fixed income with no family or caretakers - that have neither the mental capacity, nor the money, to understand and correct the situation and are sitting in the middle of a one room shack in the middle of North Dakota wondering "Wha Happen?".

Since there aren't many of these people - I feel everybody else had SOME way of getting ready over the last 2+ years. Procrastination can bite you in the butt. That's why I always PLAN on waiting until the last minute - so technically, it's not Procrastination... it's a plan!

(And before anybody jumps on me for picking on the poor elderly, I'm NOT - I am seriously referring to aged adults whose mental capacity has dwindled because of the human body's degenerative processes that are common when we age. It is referred to as senility - although 'senile' encompasses a fair number of specific degenerative disorders that we recognize as separate disorders today, I'm referring to the overall status of mental incapacity, and am NOT insinuating 'crazyness'. So don't even think of accusing me of making fun of age-related mental incompetence)

Part of my problem with America is that so many people are given everything. There are so many lazy SOBs out there that sit around and collect a check paid for by those that work their rears off.
I grew up watching my Grandparents and Parents work until they couldn't go anymore to have enough money to both survive and have a little on the side to spend. All the while those with no jobs are sitting around collection social security (because they are too fat to work, yep), welfare (again because they are too lazy or fat to get up and move around), and disability (again too fat to work). Maybe what America needs is a swift kick to the nuts and collapse to absolute nothing. Maybe then we can get back to our roots and have some pride in both what we make as well as pride in others that live here.
Too many people in America will believe anything that is told to them and even see questioning the government as being non-patriotic or against America. To me, there is nothing more patriotic than to question the government and its policies.

I usualy resent my society here (I live in Quebec by the way) I sometimes think they have the brain and attention span of a squirrell. We have huge amounts of parasites here unfortunatly and most of them are native and not those that came here in the last 20 years. We have a huge wellfare system here that was started in the 70's. The problem is that it's created a new generation that thinks and believe that everything should be given to them. So people go on this from parent to children, never actualy doing one honest day's full of work. They just receive their check every month from the goverment. Some do manage to leave this behind them but for the majority it's nothing more then an easy life where they just expect society to provide for them. I am not sure exactly when or how all this "USA bashing" started but a lot of it started with the French media which is the most biase media around. It's slowly starting to change but I always remind people that yes the USA are far from being perfect, yes they are a empire, yes they do start wars and a lot of the time it's for their own need's. But if I was to pick an empire to rule this world, which would you prefer? An american style empire or one where you basicly have no personal rights, where you can basicly starve slowly to death while the leaders are just watching from the balcony?

My dislike of society and of the original post where I was mentioning how people are just clueless and then just start blaming everyone else for their trouble is what I was thinking about. All these people had years to prepare for this change. Most changes never happen quickly yet there is always a huge amount who will just sit there and do nothing. They remind me of a cat standing in the middle of the road watching the headlights just coming closer and closer but just not moving. Only difference is humand will then go one blaming everyone for their own stupidity while the cat was just acting on is instinct. I would hope that humans would use their brains a little more? I think we can blame everyone and just not the USA, this planet is fast becoming a garbage can.

God, I want to respond to this, but I'm positive it would be construed as discussing politics, even though it wouldn't be.

Suffice it to say, I took advantage of the $40 coupon program months ago, paid a few extra bucks online for a highly-rated converter, and feel about as bad for the people who 'didn't see it coming' as I do for people that don't get out of the way of natural disasters that had been given fair warning.

And another thing.... I'm astonished that I haven't seen a "Which Digital converter box did you buy?" thread. Seems there's threads for prit near everything else lately!

We found new and creative ways to mock the stupid. I say stupid because there is no rational reason for anyone who watches TV, listens to the radio, reads a newspaper, uses the Internet, rides a bus, reads a billboard, talks with a neighbor, etc, to claim they are ignorant. Choosing not to be informed isn't ignorance.

It turned to 'people want stuff handed to them' thread - temporarily, hopefully we can get back on topic.

I used one of my coupons to get a box for the breakroom TV at work (since I can't imagine the company I work for doing it). But I clearly wrote on the bottom that it was my property, and I WILL take it when I leave... The other is sitting in a box. If I finally get the 'nads to drop cable TV, my Bravia will pick up the signal for the front room and the box will be used for the back TV (where the Atari, , Sega, PS2, Intellivision are...

Do you mean you believe there are Blu-Ray owners out there who still use analog television sets?

Pretty much, give two humans a subject and let them start a conversation and it will become either political or religious We are political creatures like it or not

Unfortunately, the current powers-that-be want to turn this once great country into another socialist failure. Europe is finally starting to see the errors of their ways, yet our arogant fools think they can do it better. I'm really hoping what's left of the semi-intelligent folks in the US wake-up and put a stop to all of this before it is too late.

Okay, 'nuff said. Back OT. Gotta agree that OTA TV is not a "right". It's bad enough my tax dollars went to buy converter boxes, but I can sort-of understand the reasoning why. The VAST majority of those not prepared for this have only themselves to blame, though that is a concept not generally accepted in these days of "blame someone else for my problems". Ooops, there I go again. Time to shut up.

I have u-Verse but my analog TV's in the kitchen and garage are hooked up to the cable that is still in the wall from my Charter days. These TV's still get basic cable but I'm wondering when Charter will go all digital so I can't "steal" the signal anymore. Maybe I should get one of those coupons and get a converter just in case.

It seems that the vast majority of people on this site are on the same page as it pertains to basic politics. I am glad to see this. We are the people that pay the taxes and do our part to contribute to society. I guess the people we are talking about are too busy watching Jerry Springer to chime in. That is of course if they got their converter box in time

You think they are going to go out and vote?
