I think I may have liked it even more than Baraka.
Unfortunately, our theater had some sort of technical issues, and we weren't able to see the Mecca scene. But I still loved the film nonetheless.

Can't wait for the Blu-ray, it should look stunning.
What?! The best part of the movie wasn't shown? You guys should've demanded a refund or something. But seriously, if you liked the film that much, wait until you see that awesome time-lapse sequence.

Heads-up for everybody in LA: Ron Fricke and Mark Magidson will be present again at The Landmark on Saturday, September 8 at 7:15 PM and Sunday, September 9 at 4:50 PM. Last chance to meet them and try to get them to sign your blus and DVDs. They rarely make appearances, let alone movies.

Unfortunately I have yet to see Samsara (2011) and Baraka (1992) is so beautiful to watch on Blu-Ray - sight and sound. The interesting news from in70mm.com it that the method of screening of Samsara is expected to pave the way for the future. Once it was so expensive to film and screen 70mm movies. Samsara was filmed in Super Panavision 70. Using that as its source it has been transferred digitally for IMAX screen presentation so the original film source is never used for exhibition - this is the best way to present the cinematic experience and most economical too. Also the transfer to Blu-Ray will be so impressive. A lot of the big players in Hollywood are paying a great deal of attention to how well this movie is accepted by audiences. So far the reaction has been very positive. Since IMAX arrived watching movies on the BIG screen has become the best way to enjoy the movie experience. If 70mm takes off with digital transfers for screening we may see a resurgence of patrons attending the cinema. Multiplex cinemas are already seeing the "writing on the wall" as more and more people choose to see movies with IMAX presentation. Let's keep our eyes on Samsara and see how well it does.

I hope you are right about this! It would be awesome to see 70mm features again in IMAX or 4k digital.

Agreed. I remember seeing movies in 70mm. Most of our younger audiences have never experienced this. It's going to blow their minds. Let's hope Hollywood sits up and takes notice.

Is this going to get a wide release or anything? I don't see it showing anywhere in Canada.

Don't quote me on this but it seems I read that Canada will only be getting it in October.

Edit: confirmed on the Samsara site, Canada in October

Ok... no problem. Thanks for the info!

My wife and I both enjoy Baraka. It isn't a film I watch often however for a unique film experience, it is tough to top.
