I read that Mann had recut it, but shaving 2 minutes off isn't exactly huge.

I think if anything he probably chopped off an uneeded scene here or their, with dialogue that had little or no impact on the storyline or plot development.

If anything I doubt it will impact negatively, overall.

Been waiting for this on BD for a while now, certainly a must buy for me.

Now we need "Collateral" on blu, as well as "Last of The Mohicans".

Just picked up Public Enemies so my Mann collection is getting bigger, if only I could sell Miami Vice ....

Got mine.

Cover:

Strange, last time I bought (1998?) this it came in one of those awful cardboard 'snappers'!

Very pleased with it especially since it was Amazon's mispriced £9.69. Although I'm sure it'll be well under £8 soon.

Great film.

Watched this last night, very emotionally involving movie. At the end, with that music, it was almost like for the first time I choked a bit for the bad guy

Blu-Ray is spectacular. Watched it a couple nights ago and I must say that not only does LA look absolutely stunning high-def (though it was already beautiful to begin with on both video and DVD) but the sound is...WOW! I thought the gun fights were great on DVD but here it's like a warzone!

Watched this last night. A wonderful experience. Great sound and video of course. Will watch the extras today if I get time.

As for the 'extra' footage foisted on us by the unhappy director it was welcomed by me in 90% of the stuff. Only one shot (Pacino in the elevator) where Mann's fiddling damaged the time frame of the film as Pacino repeats something which he would not of done as a character. Either the original editors were not involved or Mann did this re-edit sitting in his lounge. I noticed (or I thought I did) some new or changed music which I liked. The new additions gave this film a little bit more of what I liked in Manhunter. Thoughtfulness.

No, thank f*** it's not a horrible reedit like the long forgotten USA Anchorbay Manhunter. Heat also confirms just how awful and disjointed (Pacino elevator scene came to mind in Heat) Public Enemies is. A really poor project.

The man is a great director but he must learn to leave things alone. He doesn't always know best.

Also noticed (HD!) Mann and/or his cameraman/assistant cameraman at least twice in reflections!

Shipped today from Amazon.ca - I expect it around noon - will be watched by 9pm. I had received an update saying December 14 so this is almost an early Christmas present!

I watched it this evening - fantastic transfer. The sound is just amazing - I had my hands over my ears at one point in the final scene when one of those planes came in to land!

I know the film fairly well but I didn't notice the tweaks that Mann apparently made to the cut for this Blu-ray release. It seems to be just individual shots here and there that he has tightened up.

Has anyone noticed that the special feature documentary seems 'jumpy'? I've seen this disc on both a Panasonic and a Sony, and the extras look terrible when compared to the DVD.
