do you mind me asking, if they are not aliens at the end, what are they?

I've only seen the film once on tv so can someone tell me.

Not a fan, but I got that bit... they are robots, the descendednts of the robots at the beginning of the movie.

No doubt designed and improved by other robots and built in mechanized factories... err.... err... I wonder, what exactly happened to the humans, why did I think about disposal units???

Nope, they are aliens and their much higher technology allowed them to do what they did.
I found the concept of defining someone by his true feelings and not the fact he is made of flesh and blood or electronic circuits, an interesting concept.

Great movie, loved it !

Would've been much more understandable if the aliens just decided to invade earth on a whim, like a bunch of drunken pirates.

Yes, I saw the original and was completely aware of the "ending".

...loved The Thing though.
I found a very problematic narrative in War of the Worlds, I did enjoy the original, but it was more relevant at the time, since we didn't have the materials to create such cures. This was made at the wrong time, and it is very surprising that they couldn't create basic vaccines to enter the Earth, but have such advance technologies to attack us? Unless of course if they can't cure the common cold. Like a long delayed plan (50 years too late). I did find the chamber scene pretty disturbing though.

Everybody is wrong. They are characters from a script, brought to life via computer animation.

Yes they are robots folks. The issue was that they looked too much like aliens, they should have looked more like a Lost In Space robot.

I thought the idea for the movie was good but it just turned into a snooze fest half way through and the ending was such a bummer. I felt like emptying a bottle of pills afterwards. It should be noted that Stanley Kubrick was originally going to direct instead of Speilberg. Maybe it would have turned out better. Just my 2 cents...

Would have been a lot better if it ended an hour before it actually did.

It will never end.

I don't like this movie. I thought it felt empty for some reason and was trying to hard to make you feel bad for the poor robots.

5 out of 5 stars!

A.I. is my favorate film. i think it is very misunderstood and underrated. probably harder to enjoy for those who don't care for sci-fi movies, but it should still have some emotional impact. great director, great score etc. i love the soundtrack, i actually had to buy the cd of it. oh and it was a great kubrick ending.

it probably won't be released on blu until next year, the 10th anniversary.

I recently saw this again and enjoyed it but the ending fell flat for me. I give it 7/10. I may end up getting it on Blu but only when the price is right.

I think it's funny how people mention Hook. Put me down as another fan of the film!

Glorious picture Q!

5 for 5!

Avatar still beats everything for Blu Ray magnificence!

Run out and get A.I. Tomorrow!

In answer to the question "How did I rate A.I.?":

On a scale of "Mushy and creepily overprotective Spielberg new-parent fantasies"--assuming that "Lost World" would be a 1 and "Minority Report" would be a 5 at the top--I'd give it a 1.5, considerably under "War of the Worlds"...Which gets a higher 3 for having more of a discernible plot.
(Thus beating out the "Haunting" remake by a full point.)

EricJ, we agree about your boy, the Fresh Princess, but you're way off base here. I watched AI this past weekend while throwing back many beers.... to help hold back the tears.

You should be more forgiving, Jaden was still in diapers when this came out! Its not too late to start lobbying for AI 2....
