In anticipation of a possible Blu-Ray release later in the year I was curious who liked it and who didn't - any why? Personally for me I think it's one of Spielbergs best films to date: It has doomed love (Pinnocchio style), sci-fi, androids, the most beautiful John Williams score I've ever heard and of course who could forget Teddy. When I first saw it on 18th Sept 2001 it was incredibly emotional with the scenes involving the WTC, collapsed buildings and statements of Manhattan - the end of the world where the lions weep, even when David jumps off the building towards the end and we see him falling down past the sides of the buildings it reminded me of 'the falling man' on 9/11. It's still sometimes painful to watch but it is such a beautifully crafted masterpiece and the last 30 mins of the film always gets me and I cry like a baby every time, of course made even more heartbreaking with Mr Williams unforgettable score. A Blu-Ray release will be a day-one purchase for me and I can't wait to experience it again but this time in DTS HD or TrueHD. I can only imagine a flooded bedroom on this day!

I will have to watch it again.
When It first came out as a DVD, I purchased it, watched about one quarter of the movie, got bored with it, turned it off. I just looked to see if I still had the DVD in my 900+ DVD collection. Nope, it's gone. Will I purchase it as a Blu? NO but I will rent it and try one more time. . Last edited by JimShaw; 07-13-2009 at 06:53 PM. |

I enjoyed it, own it on dvd, and thought it was a good film. I guess it depends on how we each interpret the film and meanings we find behind it is how much it is that we'll enjoy it. I would probably upgrade it to blu when it is released...
EDIT: I rate it 3.5 out of 5. Last edited by Rovic; 07-13-2009 at 07:17 PM. |

3 out of 5 stars.
I enjoyed it but you can clearly see were Kubrick ends and Spielberg begins in this film. I think it ended up as exactly as I thought it would in terms of style. it looks like a Kubrick film directed by Steven Spielberg. I'm not sure if I'm making much sense there but that is my impression of the film. Spielberg wasn't able to make the project his own, probably trying to maintain the vision of his recently departed friend and you can see in the film the parts that scream Spielberg while the overall pacing of the film is very Kubrick. Having said that, I do like it. It still irks me to no end that people didn't understand the end. To this day I still have arguments about the "aliens" at the end. ![]() |

3/5 - I thought the movie was ok when I first watched it. I recently saw it on HD cable and thought it was about the same, just OK. It's not a movie I can rewatch over and over again but it does have some interesting and entertaining points throughout the movie. I'd be tempted to add this to my collection, but just b/c I'm a scifi nut.

This film is severly underrated, I think. Yes, it has bits of both directors in it, but that's what makes it great. Just imagine what it would have been like if they collaborated on it.
And I hope that people won't complain about the so called 'Spielberg' ending. It was Kubrick's finish all the way, and it definitely shows. |

![]() A.I. is quite possibly Spielberg's most challenging film since Schindler's List! And most of the credit goes to Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, and Frances O'Connor for their excellent performances, and to John Williams for his brilliant score! I'm also patiently waiting for the day one Blu-ray purchase of this! ![]() |
