Big +1 on the curtains! If you have some material left over, send it to me!

Default New stage and wall panels

Finally got the wall panels and a new stage built up front to enclose the speakers and subwoofer.

Great job TKNice!! Very clean and aesthetically very well done. I like your attention to detail on the molding on the panels in your front stage.....excellent idea and an even better looking result!!

Looks fantastic! I especially love the panels with the molding and how it matches the molding on the stage/desk.

One question: Have you noticed if the reflection level of the top of the stage/desk is distracting? The picture above would indicate that it is there but maybe not too distracting. I would suggest that if it gets to you, you may want to add a panel there as well and maybe use black velvet as the covering (dust would be a b!tch, but reflections would be gone). Just a suggestion. Your's is one of my favorite HTs!

Franin & forsberg21: Thanks guys! I'm really making some progress lately and probably will do the back wall next. I thought about curtains back there but I think I may change that up. I saw that movie Up in the Air on Sunday and the movie theater where we watched it had pleated material every 5 or so inches on the side walls. I really liked how that looked and will prob do something similar. I'll use the same molding from the wall panels around the switches and the material will run floor to ceiling around them and down the back wall.

vega2K: Thanks! Yep, I agree with you about the glare and I'm trying to decide if I want to do anything about it or not. It doesn't seem that bad when movies are playing and I wonder if anyone else even notices it. I could definitely put some kind of black velvet material there and it would hide the stage light completely, but I just hate to cover the nice wood, especially once I put another few coats of stain on the top. I'll have to see.

By the way, I love your setup too. I could go on and about all of the details. Your starfield panel project is absolutely amazing and made me want to do the same thing! Didn't you say the total cost for it was under $500?

TK,

I didn't realize that you had invested the time in applying coats onto the wood. In that case, I agree with you, I would not like to cover up the nice wood. As an alternative, you may consider simply getting non-reflective material from a fabric store (I always go with black velvet) and simply cut it out to fit the top of the stage and only place it when you view movies (if the glare bothers you of course). Then when done, simply remove and store out of sight maybe next to the subwoofer.

You are correct, the starfield cost me well under $500. Most of the cost went towards the illuminator/fibers (about $200), the crown molding (about $100) and the velvet material (about $60). The rest of the cost went towards the framing material, rigid insulation panel, nails, etc. Thank you for your comments as well.

I took your advice Vega and cut some black velvet for the top of the stage. It's just laying up there now but it really makes quite a difference.

I also vertically mounted a 42" tv over by the rack for the whole electronic movie poster idea. It really turned out awesome. Unfortunately, the wall mount from Monoprice is about 7" too wide so I'll need to pull it back off and cut it. I think a friend has some cutting tools that will do the job nicely. I'll do it in a week or two and get some pictures up.

If you want more details on the setup, I have a mac mini running the posters and downloaded about 300 of my favorites--all different resolutions, and the mac displays them all perfectly. The transitions between posters look really cool too. Also got lots of images of amazing places to put up there. I did an advanced search on google for images larger than 2 megapixels and found quite a few really nice pics. After that, it occurred to me that there are tons of cool screensavers I could run. The standard iPhoto program has one where it scans your whole poster library for color content and then slowly pulls away from a poster with other posters all around that eventually make up a mosaic (kind of like the Truman movie cover if you've seen that). Once the mosaic is complete, it snaps into focus (making one of the other posters) and then does it again. Kind of hard to explain but very neat. I'll get pics of it up soon and maybe a video too so you guys can see.

Well, there's about 2.5 feet of snow outside so I better go do some plowing. After that and maybe some sledding, it's a perfect day for a movie!

TK,

My posts are far and few between, but I had to pop-in after checking out your Gallery. My jaw dropped when I saw your Flatscreen Poster set-up. Just a fantastic idea that adds so much to your set-up. I expect more will pop-up very soon. Congrats!

Thanks guys, that means a lot because I really like setup you both have. I plan on buying some memorabilia to fill up half of the candy counter once it's built and you have lots of really cool stuff Fors. That's probably a long time off though.

Oh, and don't get me started on your starfield Vega, I've shown at least 10 people that thing--so jealous.

Great setup TKnice love how you hid all the front stage speakers. Great HT and would love to watch a blu-ray on your system one day.

By the way, thanks for the info on the velcro ties for my cable management issues. I replied to your post on my HT thread. I did purchase some velcro ties but without the little hole and pull through part of them. I bought different colors one for video and audio cables. Just haven't got the time around to starting it and going to start to finish with it. I just want to do it right the first time.

Again you have one first class setup and I only wish I had the room in my house for a separate dedicated room for HT like you have.

Thanks again and see you around on the forum. Feel free to post anything on my thread anytime, TKnice.
