I made a template to make discussions of LCD vs Plasma, speakers, Receivers, and Blu-ray players MUCH easier......

{insert your equipment you personally own here } is way better than the {insert equipment being discussed here}

You just contradicted yourself. A LCD's "vivid" picture is not life like. Of course, you can always tone down the vivid picture, but getting a more natural look usually falls under the plasma category.

Plasma Pros
  • Deeper blacks than LCD (much better contrast ratio)
  • Faster motion than LCD
  • Standard Definition TV looks better than on LCD
  • Cheaper than LCD's
  • Certain Energy Star models use less energy than LCD's
Plasma Cons
  • Glass panels can introduce glare if the room is well lit
  • Image retention is possible but not probable
LCD Pros
  • Almost all LCD's are Energy Star Compliant
  • Newer LED panels give you deep blacks
  • Glare is usually not an issue
  • Image retention is almost impossible on LCD
  • Local Dimming LED's are super thin
LCD Cons
  • Acrylic coated panels can introduce glare if the room is well lit
  • LCD panels will not give you a true black
  • Refresh rates are improving but are not as fast as plasma
  • Newer tech is expensive

just to change it up a bit...
to the OP, if you are looking for REALLy big for your money, you could always grab a nice LED DLP for around $2500 or whatever they are selling for now days.... But if that isn't an option, take it from someone that worked retail for 6 years and has seen WAY to much of the technology....plasma will benefit your situation in the long run, and save you some money in the process (unless you go with that 60'' Kuro that is ), which you could use to get a mount to hang it on, a rack to put your components on, maybe a nice case to hold your movies, or do what I did and just use that extra money to buy a shitload of blu rays..

ps, if you switch your car insurance to Geico, you can also buy a ton of blu's with the savings!

Nice list! One more though:

Off-axis viewing is another nod to Plasma. My computer is on the same wall as my Panny, about 12' away, and I have no dimmed picture while typing here. Wouldn't be true with LCD.

This thread is starting to get boring. We need a little bit more enthusiasm from its members. So, I am going to see if I can spark a lively conversation.

I was a Plasma purist true to its essence and free from adulterating or diluting influences UNTIL I walked up to the alter of BB and saw the "Light" a brand new, beautiful LED. Perfection. How could I have been so blind as not to see the truth. What was I thinking. No longer will I praise the panel of the "P...." but walk in the light of the LED.

Yes, I was drunk from being over whelmed by the truth that was set before me at the alter of BB.

In all seriousness, when I bought my 800u, I did go to BB and look at their reference LCD setup, which happened to be a Sammy 850 series. I used my own reference material and played with the picture settings.

The picture on the 800U was just plain better. And the picture on my V10 is significantly better than the 800, so you'll never convince me that an LCD could possibly have a better picture than my tv.

But run what ya brung.

I have seen the Samsung 67" led DLP but the image if not right in front and the perfect height won't be better than CRT. Believe me I saw it and Nah,,,, Now I will probably go for a Plasma, because I want a big TV for a Dark room enough said I think
