Arrow Smurfs The Movie

Quote:
The live action Smurfs movie has started casting and they aren’t looking for little blue people. Put down that spray paint Verne Troyer. Odds are the Smurfs will be CGI or something, but the movie will contain humans. That’s right I said humans. In the Smurfs cartoons the only human involved was the evil wizard Gargamel, but for the live action movie it looks like they’re going a different direction. Specifically, they’re casting kids.

Backstage has a casting notice posted by Sony Pictures Animation in which they describe two specific roles they’re looking to fill. Here’s what Sony’s looking for:

Quote:
Sophie: ages 8-10, a girl of great imagination and originality, though always appealing, she is often socially awkward and doesn't fit in with the other kids, she's smart and open, though she can be physically clumsy, when she discovers that the "doll" her father brought home from Belgium is actually a living, breathing Smurf, she takes "Clumsy" in as a member of the family and tries to get the household to embrace him and the rest of the Smurfs.

Sam: 13-16 (to play 14-15), Sophie's brother, a good kid, but he's going through that phase where he can be difficult and withdrawn and retreat to his room to play video games, through his involvement in the Smurfs' quest to get home, he reconnects with his parents and sister.
So if you’re hoping for a magical movie set in a remote, fantasy
village full of Smurfs under assault from an evil wizard, forget it. It looks like they’re taking the Smurfs out of their fantasy environment and turning them into Alvin and the Chipmunks. Instead of mushroom huts hidden in the weeds, they’re plopping them down in the real world where they’ll hang out with awkward kids and video game obsessed teenagers.

Sounds like a complete waste of time to me and I loved the Smurfs growing up. Who knows, could turn out to be quite the childrens' movie?

Unreal. GI Joe, Transformers, Scooby Doo, and now this? Thanks Hollywood for ruining another one of my childhood cartoons.

Sounds like they are going down the route of The Cat in the Hat. And we all know how that turned out. I will probably see this a couple of thousand times as the kids are just getting into Smurfs.

Should be interesting how it turns out. I still buy the seasons that are coming out for the kids.

I think the only possible way that they could make a Smurfs live action movie is if they aim it directly at pot heads, NOT children. 'Nuff said.

WHAT??? You haven't introduced them to Dinosaurs yet? The Smurfs??? Bah!!!

Seriously, what they should do with a Smurfs movie is to do a thing sort of like the Chronicles of Narnia. ie. transport a couple of kids back to a medieval time period, where the Smurfs are, and the enemy is ruthless King and his army of soldiers and magician *cough* Garagamel *cough* are coming to show them the Repo Man movie. (Not really, I just made that part up.)

This is when Hollywood gets a bit too overboard on movie adaptations.

Added the poll for anyone who happens to see it. Surely someone will be taking their kids to see it at least.

Let's see if people can contain themselves and not vote 1-Star just because

Since the poll has been reset, the ones that have already voted can't revote.

Look what smurfing trouble this movie has caused on our sweet little forum!

I totally marked during the LOTR reference in the movie.
[Show spoiler]Gargamel is in prison and whispers to a moth to go and find eagles to free him ala Gandalf on top of Orthanc in Fellowship
