Netflix provides this as a service and I think its very cool. Here is what they have to offer parents....
I added the spoiler tag because I think it should be there. ;-) 12 OK for kids 12+ Common Sense Note Parents need to know that this dark, futuristic Tim Burton-produced fantasy may be animated, but it's not meant for younger kids. Violence is prevalent throughout the film, with the main characters frequently battling killer robotic machines -- which are merciless as they pursue [Show spoiler] their ragdoll-like prey in frightening ways. The robots also make scary noises and often pop up out of the blue. Dead human bodies are shown briefly, but there's no gore. On the up side, despite the movie's ominous tone and frequent peril and violence, there's no language, drinking, consumerism, or sexual content.Violence Several scenes of frightening machines attacking and, in several cases, killing the main character's friends. Although the battles are between ragdoll-like creatures and robots instead of humans and aren't gory, they can be quite intense and scary. There are also disturbing images of a machine being beheaded, characters having their life force sucked out of them, explosions, and other moments of intense, suspenseful peril. Dead human bodies are shown briefly, including a mother and child, and flashbacks and newsreel footage show an intense battle between people and rampaging machines. Weapons include spears and, in the flashback sequences, guns and chemical bombs. Social Behavior Despite its often-bleak tone and some conflict among the characters, the movie's overwhelming messages are about banding together to battle evil, not leaving anyone behind, redemption, and self sacrifice for the greater good. As in the Terminator movies, there's a clear caution about giving too much power to machines/technology. There's also a spiritual undertone to some parts of the movie, especially in regards to how the main characters came to be. The character 9 is resourceful, selfless, and brave from the start. He inspires the rest of his kind to band together and fight against the machines. The 7 character, who is female, is a fierce, independent warrior. Leader 1 is initially resistant to change, curiosity, and risk, but he sees the error of his ways in the end. |

MUCH scarier. Its an adult film, thats animated.
Coraline and Nightmare are top notch films that I liked a lot. I have to say I liked "9" more. But mostly because of the theme and the adventure/action....post apocolyptic darkness. As you mentioned, they are very different films all the way around. This one, being more mature themed, is just more my cup of tea. I have loved dark and scary since my childhood. ![]() |

As noted by one satirical faux-TimBoi comment on another board about "Cool, I love ALL the other stop-motion films Tim's directed, like 'Nightmare Before Christmas', 'Coraline' and 'Corpse Bride'!" ![]() Quote:

The film took in an estimated $3,325,000 on Friday, after already being out since 9/9/09 in 1,661 theaters, taking the #2 slot. Nikki Finke estimates it finishing with a $9.5M first weekend.
That is very impressive considering how much of a 'disadvantage' it has compared to the other movies in the top 11 (all have at least 2,200 theaters, with the highest being Inglorious Basterds on 3,215 with 1.9M for Friday and a predicted $3.4M weekend). |

I like the movie. Some of the script was... eh... but it was solid all around. And the animation was incredible! |

I agree with you. The sound was amazing and the animation was excellent. Unfortunately the story was not great. Overall I was a little disappointed.
