How about The Mist. It has both black and white and color versions. Way cool.... Casablanca not so much so... Bertie Higgins would puke, LOL.... If you get the Bertie Higgins comment email me and tell me so....

I must admit you got me looking at first however, I am well known for my mistakes in English on here Wish I could spell as well in English as in French.

On topic, are the movies that were B&W and then turn into color actualy sell well? Usualy I just see very nasty and negative comments about these, do people actualy love buying them? I mean is it a huge lost for a studio to spend so much money on something that won't sell?

So I can see how horrible a colorized film looks in HD? No thank you!

Though you could make it a drinking game with every time the painted in colors bleed outside of where they should be. Hmmmm..... On second thought, I really don't want to get that drunk.

Not only should the colorized abomination never defile the purity of a blu-ray disc, but every existing copy should be burned and everyone who actually paid money for it should be subjected to forced institutionalization and shock therapy.

A fitting punishment for those responsible for colorizing the film in the first place would be too terrible to even describe.

Thats why I went for it.

My problem with having a classic movie colorized especially with Casablanca, is that it makes it tasteless to enjoy, as if the B & W is part of the chemistry that makes you enjoy the movie in the first place.

Colorized movies were originally shown mostly on cable TV back in the 80s and early 90s (back when Ted Turner owned the Warner's catalog and what seemed like half the channels on cable).

They initially did well in the ratings, possibly out of curiosity, possibly for the same reason people slow down when passing a gory car wreck.

They were released on video, but those who collect movies were far more discriminating than those who watch them on the tube.

I can tell you what my reaction would be if someone came to me and told me they should turn Frank Capra's classic movies into color, I might turn violent Then again I think they did A Wonderful Life In Color?? But seriousl turning Mister Smith Goes To Washington or Mister Deeds Comes To Town in color would be such a bad idea. What's next? Sergei Eisenstein The Battleship Potemkin or Alexander Nevsky or how about Hitchcock's Spycho in color?

Let me rethink this for a moment...

Would a colorized version be expanded so it fills the whole screen to get rid of those monochromatic black bars? Wait! Even better... Colorized bars!

That's it! Think about it. The colorized version of Casablanca will make both the "B&W film haters/must have it in color" group and the "why does my movie show black bars on my widescreen TV" group happy. A colored in black & white film with non-black black bars!

Still wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Especially with an original version of the film available on Blu-ray already.

My answer is no.

You have to remember that it is more than about colorizing a film...it is changing the director's vision.

No, I wouldn't buy a colorized version of anything.

Exactly how I feel about it as well. I see leave classics alone, and don't rape it.
