Default From a once Sony guy

I'm afraid I have to agree with those who see Sony as behind the pack. I'm looking at getting either a plasma or LCD. I'm still on the fence, but with regard to LCD's, I have noticed that Sony is just not there. To me, visually, Samsung appears to be the leader, with LG second, and then Sony. Heck, even the two Toshiba Regaza's I've seen look better than the Sony's. I'd never though I'd say that, but Sony's just look lackluster.

Three years ago it seemed as though Sony was on top in regards to LCD where Samsung was getting better, but just behind a little. Now it seems that Samsung have traded places with Sony, Samsung now on top with Sony where Samsung was 3 years ago. I go into Best Buy often and view the flat panel from time to time to see technology advancements, in those years I've seen a huge leap in the picture quality of LCDs!

Unfortunately thats what most people base their final judgement call on when buying a new tv. Well that & cosmetics.

NEXT!!

I could never walk into a BB store & walk out with a new tv. No calibration, proper lighting, distance, & heck.. placement as well. I'm amazed at some of the tvs people buy.

I do agree that Sony's pricing has been pretty high in comparison to other manufacturers, but you also have to look at the track records of the competition. Samsung does make great products, but they've been known to have some horrible customer service especially when it comes to warranty issues. Samsung has also had a lengthy history of quality issues too.
Maybe the A/V Claims Czar will keep an eye on this LOL!

pretty nice looking (xbr10), but LAME that it's edge lit. So glad i bought my XBR8, i was thinking about waiting.

Best LCDs out there right now are XBR8 (if you can find one), Samsung 8500, and the LG LH90.. also the toshiba 670 is fairly good.

Yeah, it feels good huh? I love my 55XBR8, and I'm very pleased that over a solid year has gone by, and I still see no reason to be interested in anything else. That's novel for consumer electronics these days.

well home theater magazine, in there newest issue, also named the sony XBR8 as the best HDTV of the year. its a pricey set but is still an excellent one.

my dads XBR9 looks great...its a decent set. i still love my panny V10 though over the xbrs.

I have an xbr5, just a couple of months out of warranty. Suddenly the picture has 3 horizontal lines with flashing and double images. Of course I contacted esupport, and of course I'll have to pay for whatever repair it needs. A 20 month old Sony needing major repair? I'm so through with them! And I feel bad because I have recommended this set to so many people and at least one person bought one because of that. I hope this isn't a common problem. It seems to correct itself after about a 5 minute warm-up period, at least so far, so I guess I shouldn't gripe too much. But Sony used to stand for excellence. I can't say I still believe that.

Yeah, it's quite pricey yet. You guys have to admit though that the xbr10 just took a huge leap forward with the wireless streaming of 1080p audio and video. It's the future right now. All TV's will eventually go the same route. One day, there will be no wires period.

On a Sony side note.... I am returning my bedroom TV today. It's a Sony 32" 720p 60hz. I paid $400 for it but I'm going to upgrade to a 32" xbr9 for $599. I think the extra $200 is worth it. The motion blur on the 60z was getting annoying. If anyone has the xbr9 32".... let me know how you like it! Thanks.

I am set with my Sony HDTV the 46V5100. No it dont have all the bells and whistles of the higher end models but it does its job. I was looking for a 120hz HDTV and found what I was looking for. I nearly bought the Samsung 46B650 but reliability and customer support all weighed in my decision. I have always had excellent customer service and great reliablity with Sony and that is why I stick with them. They may be priced higher but you get what you pay for.

As for the Sony XBR 10? Might own one someday but price wise its a little out of my ball park right now.

+1 I am very happy with my 46XBR8 after 5 months-haven't seen anything LCD or plasma to make me second guess my decision.

I'm 5 minutes into seeing the picture on my new bedroom xbr9 and all I can say is WOW. I don't think it's possible to have a better picture period. It's perfect. Transformers 2 is in now.

I will be upgrading my living room next and no doubt will buy a 52" XBR. It wont be the xbr10 though. Way too pricey yet. Maybe a xbr9 when they drop a little. I like my wires and cables for now.

lol I know.... the picture is crazy awesome! I put in Transformers 2 and was extremely impressed!!! I love my xbr9! I look forward to watching Ironman too! Actually, I'm gonna have to rewatch my whole collection. haha I've never had a finer picture than what I have now.

..... I also know what everybody means now with the "soap opera" look with the motionflow cranked up on high. Can't wait to get a xbr 52"!!!!! Gotta save a little bit first but I'm halfway there!

I had about 100 HD DVDs I just packed away and have been buying the bluray replacements over the last 6 months.I saw no difference in the quality comparing both until I got my Sony and then "night and day".

Have you watched any of the Pixar blurays yet? That's where I think the Sonys really shine, animation. The colour and detail is incredible!!

I put in Pixar's "Up" and I just don't see how there can be a better picture than what's on my screen. It is amazing! So far, I love my XBR9 and have no complaints.... only praise. The colors are outstanding and I love the Motionflow. Transformers 2 looks wild with it on.... although it gives that particular movie too much of the soap opera look. Still fun to see it like that though. So far, football is looking great today too!

I watched Home last night with Motionflow on high and that may be one of the best bluray experiences I have ever had. I was in complete awe. Can't wait to check out Planet Earth with Motionflow too.

I'll tell you what though.... there is probably no TV out there that will look as good hanging on the wall than the new XBR10. Nothing even comes close.
