I'm using PCM from my 60gb Ps3 to my Onkyo TX-SR707. The dialogue was a little low so I just turned it up a bit.

How about this. I have a Sony BDP-S350 connected via HDMI and bitstreaming to a Sony STR-DG920. I didn't think there was anything wrong with the audio on the IMAX version.

The sound on this movie was phenomenal!! I have the Ps3 Slim so i had my receiver showing as DTS-HD Master. i normally have my movies at 48 the max but i had to crank it up for this movie to 56 but let me tell you guys something. In Shanghai at the start of the movie WOW this sounded incredible. The Imax parts sounded awesome too. The dialog was a little low but you could still understand what they are saying. I will give the other copy a rent this week and i will let you guys know.

I went a little crazy and purchased both versions of T2 ROTF because of the great deals. I will be doing some testing this weekend.

Sony BDP-S360 bitstreaming to Sony STR-DG820. I thought the action scenes sounded great. The only issue I had, and it's with many blockbuster titles, is the dialogue is mixed low. However, the scene in Egypt at night, where Sam and Mikaela are talking, I had to really crank up the volume as I couldn't understand anything they were saying. Just sounded like mumbling. This sounded much lower than the rest of the dialogue in the movie.

Normally, my db level is around -22. To hear the dialogue clearly, I bumped it to about -26. But for the scene I mentioned above, I had to go to -35.

this was posted by paul nyc on AVS:

"I have both versions and can confirm that the IMAX version is just 3-4 db lower as mentioned above. No other difference. BD-30 into an Integra receiver. KEF ACE speakers x 5 and a 15" def tech supercube sub. System calibrated at THX levels with an SPL. Both versions sound awesome. Just turn it up on the IMAX version, baby"

Panasonic bdp35 bitstreaming to an Integra dtr-7.8.

I actually bought the IMAX version at walmart the other day and got the other version from netflix today. Having never seen the movie before I watched the Netflix version first tonight. Had my 7.8 at 67 for this version and it sounded great. Then just to do some comparison I put in the IMAX version. It did seem a bit quieter, but I turned up the volume to 70 and it seemed to be very similar to the other. I haven't done any in depth comparisons at this point, just the forest scene and the scene following when they are lifted by helicoptor. While the two versions seemed similar once the volume was adjusted, I did still think there was some edge to the "regular" version. The effects seemed to be a little louder.

PCM from my PS3 to Onkyo 805, no problems. Except for excessive house shaking!

And that appears to be the consensus on those who have compare the two versions.

When the volume is turned up on the Imax version, it sounds "pretty close" to the standard release but the standard release appears to have more dynamic range and perhaps bandwidth.

The Imax may perhaps be the "iPod" compressed version and since people seem to tolerate iPod AQ, then the Imax AQ should suite the majority but for those who like high fidelity, we want the best AQ offered and want some sort of scientific proof that they are identical except for volume level.

Purchased the IMAX version from Wally-world. Running a 60 Gb PS3 PCM through HDMI into a Pioneer Elite SC-05. Dialogue was quieter than normal. I run my movies at -17 db and that is enough to get a nice clear dialogue, well except with ROTF.

I figured this occurred because the action sequences are so loud that when the movie does get quiet it is really prevalent . What do you think!

But the consensus of those with the equipment to actually detect differences say it's just a difference in volume level. So far, that's what I'm hearing, too. It really is as simple as turning the volume up - and the statement I bolded above really is quite bold to say. Where are you getting your info that the regular appears to have more 'dynamic range' and 'bandwidth'?

In absolutely no way is the IMAX version "iPod quality." It is still clearly lossless audio. You can look at the two different bitrates for the audio and see that they're basically the same.

Just for the sake of Jeff Kleist's query, I'll post my setup again.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Walmart IMAX Edition played on Sony BDP-S350 bitstreaming DTS-HD Master Audio for decoding in my Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver.

I did not notice having to turn volume higher than typical for average listening levels (-28dB), and closer to reference-volume as well (-16dB). Dialog did not seem low on my setup, and the soundtrack did not lack wide dynamic response.

I have the IMAX version Sony S360 bitstream to Yamaha RXV-3800
I turn up the volume as high as I need not a big deal here.. selected the opening action and forest scene to test. I think I have a problem with the mix itself, even after turning the volume up. The sound effects seems kind of weak. Especially the forest scene when they were fighting in the background should be much louder, e.g. unconvincing?

The robot footstep bass thumping is there but I am not going to use the presence of LFE alone as a bench mark of the sound quality. Could have sounded better. maybe someone who knows Michael Bay can ask him if it was supposed to sound like that

Now I don't know if it is an IMAX version only or not since I am not desparate enough to buy both.

This is interesting. I have the IMAX version but only got to watch it on a TV which of course ain't lossless but it sounded pretty loud to me. I need to listen to this movie in DTS-HDMA.
