Great place to be if you never want to go anywhere else... nearest airport in 1.5 hours away, and the Capitol building is smaller that most lecture halls at my undergrad...). Plus, the apartment I was living in only had a 13" tube TV. (Longest 3 months of my life...)

But - I bought a Blu-ray copy of The Last Waltz (to compare with the DVD), and wouldn't you know...

Even on a 13" tube TV, transmitted over an S-video cable

I STILL saw a difference vs. the DVD!

I've been hooked on Blu and the PS3 ever since.

My 20 GB launch hard drive has definitely shown it's limitations and I'm currently looking into upgrading, but unlike some other platforms, my PS3 has never disappointed, always had all the latest upgrades and delivered performance that outshined even the newest Blu player, and NEVER ONCE gave me a RROD!!!

Happy BD (that's Birthday, not Blu-ray Disc ) PS3!!!

Cheers,

Doc

I got my 60GB PS3 shortly after launch with my bonus, along with 16 movies for it.

Didn't actually get a game for it until Ninja Gaiden Sigma came out, but since then it's seen some playtime. Most of which is Rock Band, but I also played some adventures like Heavenly Sword and Metal Gear.

PS3 has a bright looking future with more RPGs and more major titles coming its way in the coming months. I expect I will expand my PS3 collection considerably this coming year. Ultimately I see myself getting a few dozen games for it. Maybe not over 100 like I did with PS1-2, but over 50 is forseeable.

First great memories I had with my PS3 were when I first brought it home. Man was I excited to get home that night! Though my HDTV didn't come in for another 6 days, I was ecstatic to have a brand new awesome PS3. The first time I put in Transformers and watched it on my new TV, I was blown away. I watched like 5 movies that day!

And then when I started playing Metal Gear Solid 4, WOW. Soon after, I bought Bad Company and got sucked into that game for months, having so much fun playing it. I guess those are the best memories I have with my PS3.

Man, I wish it still had that same effect on me. I hate that I get used to having cool stuff Oh well, next upgrade is a place big enough for a projector, and hopefully a new soundsystem!

I wasn't able to get a PS3 at launch...mainly because I didn't have the foresight to put $$$ on a pre-order, nor the time to wait in line for a launch unit.

But on New Years day 2007, I was in Best Buy and they had units available - I plunked down the money to get the 60GB plus COD3 and Blazing Angels. Took it home, hooked it up (much to my wife's dismay - mainly over the expense - but I waited until April when the PS2 launched and I wasn't waiting until after Easter for this one!) and marveled in how good it looked on my 56" JVC LCoS set.

My whole selling point was that it was a gaming rig plus I could watch Blu-rays if I wanted...little did I know that the Blu-ray functionality would overtake the gaming aspect of this machine in my house...we just went through movies with Netflix and a few J&R, Amazon and TRU sales helping fill in some titles to own.

Everything was going great, I was leaving the machine on to fold all the time and thought the machine was invincible...then it happened. I turned on the machine to resume watching of a DVD series we had and the unit was all locked up...no response - uh-oh...

Hard boot and it comes back on but it didn't look right...little speckles all over the screen and no fan noise other than on start up. Major uh-oh...

Just after my b-day this August, my 60 GB b/c 4 USB card reader PS3 froze up and wouldn't stay on for more than 10 minutes without locking up.
I had $300 in cash sitting in the cabinet - it was going to be used towards a TV for the bedroom but, wait, what's that - slim PS3 is confirmed and will be $299??!!?? - well, I could save half my money and send this one off to be fixed...but what about those people having the same problems over and over? Do I really want to do that?

So I waited...and waited...and finally, the wife couldn't take it anymore... she had become so used to the PS3 doing a good job at upscaling DVDs that when we tried to watch DVDs on a non-scaling player, she couldn't take it anymore (I believe it was getting caught up on Sons of Anarchy). So on launch day, she was off from work and went to Best Buy and bought a PS3 slim (with my money of course!)

So I am mostly happy again...I lost the b/c, 2 USB ports and the card reader function but the Slim is so much more quiet (aside from when it is turned off after a 2+ hour on time frame - the plastic expansion is a bit loud) and it performs close to flawless. I've had 3 freeze-ups total - compared to the 60GB, that is nothing.

But at some point, I will get the 60GB unit fixed...I just am hoping that Sony does right and starts covering these repairs because 2.5 years is a little too soon for electronic components to just die from use.

I sold my 360 for $350 and used that money to get my 40gig PS3 in 2008... Favorite moment is when I first watched a blu ray movie on it.....then MGS4 came out...etc..etc..since then it's been upgraded to a 320gig hdd...about 15 games only (mostly sports)...

Wow, the time has really flown. Here's hoping that I can get another 3 years out of my 60GB launch model. I feel that I've already gotten my money's worth out of it, but the bragging rights would be really cool
