Best movie news i've heard in years. We really need another bad ass historical epic, and Mel is the man!

Who better to direct a film about my crazy ancestors than a crazy white man.

Actually I feel kind of torn...on one hand it could be worse, and on the other hand it could be better...

Just so long as he doesn't make them out to be saints. Heh...trust me...the blood still runs through my veins and even I can say all the men in my family have been a little touched in the head.

Actually I agree with you that his early work was impressive, including Basketball Diaries. Unfortunately it's been all downhill from there. He just does not command the weight or authority that some of his roles require. For example I did not believe I was watching Howard Hughes for even one frame of Aviator. I don't think he'd have much more success as a viking. But hey, chicks dig him.

The sad thing is that his historical epics are entertaining but very bad on the actual history. Not just a little bad....but I mean they miss by miles.

Didn't they make this film a few years ago? It was called Pathfinder.

The only connection I see is Viking. That is like looking at 30 Days of Night and saying they already made it, it was called Underwolrd.

I did not like Pathfinder. I found it to be very boring, not engaging in any way. Plus, I prefer the Vikings to be protagonists. They are far more interesting to me than Native Americans. Hopefully Mel Gibson's movie will be better; though that is not setting the bar very high

Honestly, I do not care. I like the settings...but I still want to be entertained. I'll read the history books if I want to learn "the truth" (and the movies can be a good instigator).

Say what you will about Mel Gibson, but the guy sure knows how to make a movie, Apocalypto is the tits! I'm looking forward to Edge of Darkness and I'm sure the Vikings movie will be a gorious bloodshed!

I agree with you on that, but it's not just historical epics, it's every movie that was ever made based on and/or inspired by an event in history. Of course they're never accurate. That should be obvious to anyone with even 0.000000001% of common sense. Movies are for entertainment and nothing more.....but then you get those people who dress-up everyday like let's say, Gandolf and well.....they're on a completely different level of living.

But hey.....who cares if during William Wallace's time they didn't wear kilts and the Mayans supposedly didn't make mass human sacrifices, at least Gibson didn't bastardize an event like Pearl Harbor by putting Ben Affleck & Josh Hartnett into a love triangle with a girl.......or send Tom Cruise to attempt to kill Hitler. Gibson hasn't directed a stinker yet and this shouldn't be any different.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a great actor, with his only crap role that I know of being in the biggest $$$ maker ever (how ironic). All the hating is because he's gotten more tail than anyone else on Earf.

Link to a recent Leo DiCaprio interview: http://flicksided.com/2010/06/leonar...-viking-movie/ Seems like he's excited about the Vikings idea.

Supposedly the LAPD has opened a criminal investigation on Mr. Gibson over
recent allegations made by his ex. Some of the stuff that he supposedly said
is not pretty.

I'm sure it'll be good, he just needs to mellow out a bit in his personal life.

It was just announced that the William Morris agency has dropped Mel Gibson as a client. I just
heard the audio tape that was recorded by his girlfriend, all I can say is WOW.

Bummer, cuz he's one of my favorite actors. I'm not really paying attention to all of this stuff because I don't wanna think of him as that kinda guy. Oh well, he's an awesome actor and director, so I hope he can get his life right and keep making films, especially this one!!
