For some people theres too many devices out there that carries Netflix app already. I personally do not need a 5th device that support Pandora, Netflix, You Tube again.

Cool Multi-sided discs.

I assume the 960 and others would only read one side - correct?

In fact, the owner's manual advises AGAINST loading 2-sided discs.

Default Caution - Moving the unit with discs

Be very careful when moving this unit with discs in it, especially tipping it back even a little bit. I was getting error "E 8002".
There are no guards inside to keep discs from coming out of the carousel more than halfway. The discs will become locked that way preventing the unit from rotating. The only way I found to fix this is to take the top off and using something long to try and reset the discs back in the carousel. Which is very difficult if several get locked against the metal fin.

Keep the unit very level when moving it with discs in it.

Unhappy I need help with Gracenote

I am a newbie at this.

I just purchased a Sony BDP-CX400 and it works great except that I can't get any info from Gracenote.

The Network connection is correct according to the player, but I keep getting a error message "cannot receive data" from Gracenote.

I have about 20 discs in and I get that error on every disc.

I also cannot update the firmware from the player.

Thanks,
Glenn

Hope you got this sorted out by now but if you can't even get to the firmware then it's not seeing the internet at all.

Hi I am thinking about getting this bluray changer my question is I know you have to be pluged in to the ethernet to access gracenote to get all the info stored for your blurays but once it is stored do you still have to be connected to the internet to always view the title and albulm cover art. Also is there plans for a wifi megachanger in the works. Any help would be greatley appreciated

No, you don't have to, but sometimes it looses the info on some discs and then you have to reload them!

Well, I've had my 960 now for a year and I must say I just love it. It's just a little over half full of BDs the rest are DVDs. As I get a new BD I remove a DVD and rip it. I'm still not too impressed with Gracenotes though as only titles are displayed, they should get their info elsewhere like IMDB to include a synopsis. Another gripe is there is no way to manually enter cover art if Gracenote doesn't have it in their system.

I am considering the purchase of a DVD changer for concert DVDs, as they are taking up a lot of space in the 960

Overall the BDP-CX960 is a great unit...

Any news on a possible new changer, this one is going for a very steep price on Amazon and I'm hoping a new one will include 3D and possibly Wi-Fi.

Wow those are crazy prices for the unit, you should be able to pick up a new one for $500 to 600 somewhere I would imagine. I think I paid $650 for mine a couple of years ago. Haven't heard anything about any new changers coming out...

I love my BDP-CX960. My only gripes are that editing is really slow and loading is very slow also.

Yeah, I get invalid disc periodically though I haven't noticed a pattern. What usually works to remedy it is to clean and/or reset the disk and reload.

thx, i took the top off of mine and is surprisingly clean, not sure how discs could all of a sudden need cleaning if they are never touched but only once to put them in the changer.

I can tell you with confidence that the "invalid disc" issue with these changers has nothing to do with the discs themselves. Every one of my Blu-ray discs doesn't have as much as a fingerprint on them and I've experienced the "invalid disc" issue repeatedly since purchasing my first Sony Blu-ray changer. The same disc will have no issues being read and played in any of my stand-alone Blu-ray players or the internal/external Blu-ray drives for my laptop. The issue is with the changers themselves and is hardware/software related and wouldn't be happening in the first place if the changer were designed to simply load the disc residing in a given changer slot if physically present. Instead, the changer has been designed to validate the presense of a given disc in each changer slot, presuambly for purposes of the Sony XMB implementation and as many have found, that process can often fail resulting in the inability to load a given disc. In contast, I own 6 Sony DVP-CX985V DVD changers and have never had a single issue like this or any other type of issue for that matter. If a disc physically resides in a given changer slot it will load successfully each and every time once selecting the given changer slot. Of course these Sony Blu-ray changers have been a different story entirely.

The first Sony Blu-ray changer I had purchased was a Sony BDP-CX960 as I simply couldn't afford the 7000ES at the time. Unfortunately with the 960 you must use Sony's XMB for disc selection. While poorly implemented in my opinion it wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the "invalid disc" issue I was having. When powering on the changer at complete random certain discs could not be played which played on a prior occassion without issue. When the playback attempt would fail I'd get the error message "invalid disc". At that point it was a game of opening and closing the door repeatedly with or without the disc inserted in addition to performing a power recycle at times before the stupid changer would allow me to play the disc in the given changer slot. There were also times where some discs would just disappear from Sony's XMB completely when powering on the changer. As such, I was routinely sorting by slot number and checking from top to bottom to ensure there were not missing slots in the list. If so, I'd then have to remove the particular discs from the changer that weren't showing up in the list, power cycle and then place the discs back in the changer. Of course at that point once the discs were showing up again I had to search and download the proper Gracenote data all over again in addition to editing the title information if needed to ensure the discs were not being sorted alphabetically by the article and/or using too many characters preventing the full title from being seen within the XMB. The lack of a "Sort Title" field annoyed me from day one and was a constant source of frustration. Of course even without a "Sort Title" field the editing might have not been so bad had Sony provided USB keyboard support. The whole "old school before the age of smartphones" texting interface is just absurd. It's equally absurd that Sony didn't offer the ability to backup the current disc data in addition to providing for direct disc selection by simply pressing a "disc" button on the remote and punching the slot number in with the keypad and hitting enter.

That being said, the 960 is now sitting in my closet not getting used as I just couldn't deal with it anymore and don't really feel comfortable selling it to someone, even after disclosing the issues I had with it. Fortunately I was able to purchase a number of the Sony BDP-CX7000ES changers for $400 each when they were on closeout and am now taking advantage of the RS-232 control per selecting a given disc to be played. Bypassing the need to use Sony's XMB interface for disc selection and everything that entails has by and large removed the "invalid disc" issue from the equation. Powered on my 7000ES changers for the first time, disabled Gracenote and BD-Live access, enabled RS-232 control and adjusted the other player settings accordingly. Haven't used Sony's XMB since. To watch a given disc I simply send the changer the appropriate RS-232 command via my HTPC running My Movies for Windows Media Center or via my own DVD/Blu-ray management activity I created which runs right on the screen of my Pronto remote. Now I do still from time to time get the "invalid disc" error with the 7000ES after sending the RS-232 command for a given changer slot. Happens "very" infrequently however, and so far a simple power cycle of the changer resolves the issue every time. After power cycling I'll send the RS-232 command again and the given disc loads without issue.
