Not too big on romantic comedies, but of the ones I've seen it has to be hands down, When Harry Met Sally.

Does Doctor Zhivago fall into an EPIC romance?

What about Bonnie & Clyde?

I don't know how to categorize these, so I'll just list my favorites:

Casablanca
The Lady Eve
The Apartment
Annie Hall
Bull Durham

Over all, I'm not a big fan of the genre.

Zhivago absolutely does! I haven't seen it in such a long time that I couldn't list it. Can't wait for it to be released on blu this year though!

I guessed three of your four!

I debated about putting the Notebook on my list, and honestly probably should have. Personally, I think the book is a little bit better, but I love the scenery of the movie version. Def not a film that I think a guy should be "embarassed to like."

Wings of Desire is on my immediate to do list, and Marienbad I will be watching this weekend.

Great choice with Eternal Sunshine--one of the most unique love stories ever.

Default Oldie but a goodie...

The Notebook (almost had to turn my man-card in after watching this one)
Serendipity (Cusak, Beckinsdale, Piven... 'nough said)
Titanic (Epic. Staricase scene. Wife crying. Any questions?)

Here's one from the vault: Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. One of the best romances ever!

i think you'll like Marienbad. check out Ebert's review. its particularly badass, and shed a lot of light on it for me. make sure you post your review on both Marienbad and Wings.

Yes it is...its in my top 100 films of all time. Somewhere in Time also has one of the greatest soundtracks.

The first time I watched it, for no real reason, I did not like it too much. But then I couldn't stop thinking about it for days. I have since watched it 5-6 more times in its entirety, and I have no doubt that it will be considered one of the classic romances in the decades to come, as it far exceeds many of the films in the genre from the past 30 years.

The acting is top-notch, the music quite rightly won the Oscar, the cinematography is incredible, and the directing is one of the best of the decade. I consider the snub (a word I absolutely hate and generally refuse to use) of Joe Wright for best director nomination at the Oscars (he had gotten one at the Golden Globes), to be an absolutely travesty. His directing was so far beyond any other directing of the year, that it is quite honestly embarassing to me that he wasn't nominated and didn't win. His tracking shot (a long, uninterrupted shot without edits) on the beach of Dunkirk alone should have gotten him nominated (you should read up about that shot--Ebert and others called it one of the best and most effective tracking shots in history).

So yes, highly recommended.
