These threads are getting ridiculous

I watched 300 last night at home on a 140 inch screen at 1080p, and let me tell you the image was fantastic...

There really isn't much more to say that other people haven't. This is the film the directed wanted, and the Bluray FANTASTICALLY portrayed that exact director's image...

That one scene where Leonidas returns from the fight with the Wolf and is crowned king of Sparta was, in my opinion, nothing short of breath taking, and nothing was lost in that translation to home viewing thanks to Bluray.

Personally I thought the Bluray was simply awesome, and I am glad they left it the way the did.

Threads like these make me wish Blu-ray would stay a niche format. If you voted "without grain" (considering they would have to refilm the entire movie for this to happen, and is QUITE ridiculous), I think you should stick with DVD (even though that would be grainy too, because that's how the damn movie is) and pick up reading as well, since you obviously have little appreciation for films.

The movie is fine but in some scenes there seems like a semi truck crashed on the freeway and dropped tons of sand. I would've preferred less grain, not no grain at all. I understand this movie uses alot of CG and is used to cover up some of that CGI and also because of the novel. Overall I was still pleased with the release and would recommend it to my friends.

Cool

With grain. The CGI would look too glossy without it and appear out of place. There's also a wheat field, which is grain, and that was intentionally put in there too!!

I have great appreciation for films, and I don't usually mind grain, but when it's distracting and all of the people I had come over to watch 300 all stop watching the movie (on this one scene only) to comment that something is wrong with my disc or tv (and I have a calibrated Pro-FHD1), it makes me wish it wasn't as grainy.

And it's a personal preference right? So why tell people that they have little appreciation for films just because they prefer something different from the way YOU like it?

Exactly, people will have different points of view. Some people on here on Blu-Ray.com are attacking other people for expressing their point of view, its not like were promoting the HD-DVD version is better. This is starting to look like an AVS post.

Because the way I like it is the way it's supposed to look as mandated by the creator of the movie . . . No personal preference really involved.

Why won't the anti-grain,anti-black bar people please go back to watching Fauxnews and leave us alone? You should be embarrassed to make these ridiculous arguments. How did you get into blu ray or HD in the first place? Please don't ask why there is grain or black bars. Please just lurk, don't post.

OK. It's a dumb poll. You'll take it how the director wants it and if you don't like it you can turn the movie off.

Can we please stop filling the forum up with these stupid-assed polls now?

Lousy analogy...better to say "Do you want the Mona Lisa crackled and aged or freshly painted.

It is actually a very good analogy. Not sure I get your's though. Unless you're actually for removing the grain. Which would make it an ok analogy for a idiotic concept.

Well, if it were freshly painted, it wouldn't be the Mona Lisa because Michaelangelo has been dead for hundreds of years. To answer your question, I would want it cracked and aged (or cleaned like the Sistine Chapel) rather than a reinvention.

There are a lot of reasons for film grain. Some directors use it to spark the viewers emotion. Others are striving for as much natural light as possible and an increase in grain is a direct consequence of that decision.

People are making it sound as if there's some switch in the projector that says "Grain - On/Off." That's far from the case.

Your ignorance is showing. It was Leonardo that painted the Mona Lisa not Michelangelo. And if you are going to argue the fact that he has died and can no longer paint a fresh copy...we can equally say that he also isn't around to be able to paint a toothy smile on the Mona Lisa.

And to see people get all excited and angered over the fact that some people are displeased with the grain makes me laugh. How old are most people in here?

This is not a thread conceived to rid the world of all grainy "300" Blu-ray movies and demand that a smooth version be released...it was merely an innocent question requiring a simple answer And by the way there is a button to remove grain from from the image....it's called Sharpen. it just does a horrible job.

Furthermore, people defending the grain solely because it is the directors intention and for the sake of art.....are simpletons. But I'll stop here; you guys are too easy to upset. To think that this the way most wars are started...for stupidities.

maybe if you came to BRCC( Blu-Ray Community College) after taking 300-101(2 days a week 3 hour classes *once on sunday) you would have an epiphany and say OMG I realize now why the movie needed grain

Thought I'd make it 70. Some people just need something to whine about. I saw 300 the first weekend it came out, before the print got scratched to shit, and it didn't look much better than the BLU. Which is to say it looked fabulous on the big screen and slightly less fabulous at home.
