This could be really good if they went old school on this and hire stunt drivers, and not CGI crashing cars.
I believe I remember reading they wanted to use as little CGI as possible, and keep this as close to the look of the originals as possible. Which means Tom Hardy, and real steel crunching together.

As for the CGI effects though, if you read the interview on the other page with Tom Hardy he mentions that the LOTR guys are handling the CGI they do use though.

I think the boys that did Lord of the Rings are involved. That kind of stuff as well. CGI is not going to be — I think it’s going to be much more about how you deal with action. These things are going to be really there. Big rigs, big explosions, big car crashes. Big violence, you know. It’s going to actually happen as opposed to doing a 2D turned to 3D screen. -Tom Hardy
There will be probably some cgi (maybe a de-aged Tina Turner? ), but the huge plus is having the director of the first 2 movies on board. I think he'll want to keep most of it as 'real' as possible.

Awesome thanks. And yes, I did mean only the first 2 Mad Max films, not all 3, just in case people thought I forgot one.

Oh and George Miller is directing, correct?

George has said over the years he wants to make these new movies as closely in look to the originals as possible. They are shooting these in the exact same locations too.

Yeah, I just looked through the news more. Thanks though. Just didn't know if they would push him into some co-directed thing or something.

Hope this starts rolling soon. Should be fun. As a fan, Tarantino should help out with this is any way he can (not directing). Him being a fan of Ozploitation and has shown he can make good car chase scenes (Death Proof).

I would really like to see what Tom looks like with a 40lb weight loss. Though we could probably assume he'd look like he did in all his british roles pre-Bronson.

Also is it just me or do Tom Hardy and Logan Marshall-Green look really similar??

Moviehole doscovered some pictures of a few of the Mad Max vehicles to be used in Fury Road, the lastest chapter of everyone's favorite need more sunblock franchise.

Here's what the guy wrote on the Advriders forum board:

Stopped at a truck stop somewhere in NSW and spied these vehicles under tarps trying hard not to be noticed. When I asked the truckie what they are he said he is transporting them to Silverton for the new Mad Max movie which is about to commence shooting. While he went for a piss I took some shots. Unfortunately I could only get the under sides of the vehicles but I can tell you they are huge and a lot of engineering went into them and there is some serious horsepower being produced by one of them (twin v8 engine).

One is a tracked vehicle and check out the cowcatcher on the front of one of them. There were 4 vehicles in total.

Sneaky little devil! But a twin V8 engine? Isn't there supposed to be a gas shortage in the Mad Max movies? A twin V8 isn't very environment friendly! Where's my souped up Mad Max Prius?

Check out the pics below.

Default Filming Delayed for Mad Max: Fury Road; Production May Not Resume Until 2012

Quote:
Well this is disappointing. After extensive prep work had gone into setting up back-to-back filming of Mad Max: Fury Road and Mad Max: Furiosa—both to be shot in 3D—the shoot has now been delayed from its originally planned February 2011 date to, if we’re lucky, February 2012.

This is the second major setback for the film. Production had already been delayed once before, back in July. The cause then was unseasonal rains, which had made the area too fertile for the intended car stunts that would be taking place.

As unfortunate as all this is for Mad Max fans, the film’s crew has it far rougher. The Australian reports on this most recent regression: “The delay has left many major film crew members without work amid fears the high Australian dollar could ultimately kill the film as its budget grows.” Does this mean budget issues are to blame? We can only speculate, as the article doesn’t specify the reason for the delay.

Pre-production on the film won’t resume until later this year, either in August or November. The actual shoot, meanwhile, is anticipated to take place in (as mentioned above) February 2012.

So the silver lining to this news is… the films may actually get made. Not quite what I was hoping for following past exciting updates on George Miller’s continuation of the Mad Max saga, which is set to star the great Tom Hardy, but it’s less disheartening than the alternative.

Update:

Quote:
George Miller has been out doing the promotional rounds for the "Happy Feet" sequel and gave an update (via Coming Soon) about the progress of "Mad Max: Fury Road".

“Theoretically, it’s next year. We have 150 big vehicles built and so on. [W]e were all geared up for that. We were all set to shoot in the Australian desert and then unprecedented rain came and what was the wasteland — completely flat, red earth — is now a flower garden. The big massive salt flats in the center of Australia where they do record speed trials and stuff is now full of pelicans and fish… We sort of lost the wasteland” says Miller, speaking about the cancelled Broken Hill shoot.

I guess it's good the film got pushed back... Hardy will be a bigger star after Batman 18 comes out.

Default Mad Max IV

If the first two weren't bad ass enough for you, George Miller has been salivating to reboot his ultra violent Mad Max series for the 21st century. It was scheduled to start shooting this Summer, after it was delayed last year. Tom Hardy (Bane from Dark Knight Rises) is going to be playing Max alongside a bald, 1 and a half armed Charlize Theron.

Also, it seems Elvis Costello visited the set with a random black baby. Haha, the little tiger looks as confused as we are.

Thoughts? Will this be a violent action spectacle worthy of the first 2 films? Will it be better than The Road Warrior?

1 and a half armed theron?

Not sure how that will look and she's a fairly beautiful woman so the effect may as be transformational as Monster was for her. Hardy is an amazing up and coming actor so glad he's taking on the iconic role

WOW. 100 Million dollars is a shit load to throw at this movie. With that level of investment Miller should have enough freedom to go all out.

Also, heads up, I read in the blu-ray forum that The Road Warrior is out of print on blu-ray.
