Ok, currently own a 360 and I'm thinking of making a switch to a PS3. Yes, I could just have both... but for me, that's overkill.
I'm tired of the "loud" 360... Also, already experienced the "red ring of death" and had to send it back to be fixed, so that's kind of soured me a bit. But, I do like being able to download TV episodes and Movies and actually use it more for that reason alone. So, my questions... Is the PS3 network pretty reliable for online play...? Also, can you download movies and TV episodes...? Are the PS3s quiet...? Do they normally run pretty hot...? I have a Sony bdp-s360. Would the PS3 be as good... or better? ![]() Last edited by jswanson; 02-11-2010 at 03:48 AM. |

I'm going to give you my honest opinion, the 360 for online gameplay is great and the Ps3 is not as much. If your not playing online I suggest the Ps3 if you are, stick with the 360. Please don't lynch me for saying this, I love both systems but for strictly gaming the 360 has got the upperhand.

Did you install any of the games yet? If you're not sure how, let me know, I can walk you through it in a sec.

I'd say the PS3 is pretty reliable for online play.
It runs quiet, if you have surround sound at all, you better be a friggin bat in order to hear it. Even with my television without the surround sound turned on I can't hear it over the game that I'm playing. I recently picked up one of the slimline ones and I've found that so long as you keep it ventilated it runs pretty cool, sure you can tell it's been on by putting your hand on it, but you can't boil water on it like I've seen with some 360's. XBL is usually full of little kids. And it's free and almost lag free. Unlike XBL too. |

I like the 360 because you can do a party chat with your friends so you don't have to hear little kids. Also if I'm playing a single player game and my buddy is playing a different game we can still chat, which is a big plus. I disagree with the lag free, every COD match I got in on the PS3 was a disaster but SOCOM runs pretty smooth.

So if you're playing a single player game there's other people involved? I'm not against the PS3 or I wouldn't own it.

The prevalence of lag in Modern Warfare (or World at War as the case may be) is unfortunately due to the game using listen servers, ie peer to peer, rather than dedicated servers. It's not a fault of Sony's online service, or Microsoft's for that matter. Less lag in the Xbox version would be due to the attach rate being higher. There's just a better chance that someone playing has a good upload speed making their machine an ideal server for that match.

You serious?
![]() Look at 2010 PS3 exclusive lineup... God of War III Gran Turismo V Heavy Rain MAG MLB 10: The Show White Knight Chronicles Yakuza III And, to answer some of your questions, I've a 60GB PS3 that I got back in July 2007 and no problems with noise! I've no problem with online either! |

I own all 3 consoles, I bought the PS3 for exclusives as well as the Wii. From a gaming standpoint I and most of my buddies that own ALL 3 prefer the 360. If you don't own each console how can you justify that the PS3 is better? Again and for the last time, I LOVE MY PS3, just not as much as the 360.
