I have the DC version and I am happy with it. I have watched it about 10 times since the release date, so I have no need for the UC version.

Director's Cut. I have no idea why anyone would want an animation within a film...

I actually bought the Ultimate Cut on DVD when it came out. This was before I had a Blu-ray player. But apart from the extended Bernie scenes at the newsstand and the commentaries, there is nothing that is better than the Director's Cut on Blu-ray. The Maximum Movie Mode just makes it. IMO, it's the best special feature on a Blu-ray to date. At least from the ones that I've seen.

I have tried to justify purchasing the Ultimate Cut in the past, but at it's price, and considering I already own the Director's Cut, I can't find a good reason to purchase it. I mean, I'm a strong Watchmen fan, but after seeing The Tales of the Black Freighter (which I didn't especially like) and being disappointed that the Motion Comics were only made with one voice actor, the Director's Cut would be far much better to purchase.

Thumbs up

I gave the directors cut away to my friend for his birthday and purchased the Ultimate Cut when it was released. As far as which is better I give The Ultimate Cut a slight edge just for having the balls to be such a complete edition of the story.

I have no idea why anyone wouldn't, unless they have a prejudice against it.

I preferred the Ultimate Cut immensely. The Tales of the Black Freighter added meaning to the message of the film and provided very strong emotional depth, especially being such a strong story just on its own. I was amazed at how well it was integrated into the film, and how perfectly it flowed with what was happening with the Watchmen.

The Ultimate Cut is set up just like the graphic novel. I was hesitant on picking it up but when I read that there would only be a certain number of copies produced and that Walmart had it for $28 I couldn't refuse it. Being that I own both the DC and UC and have watched both, the UC is the best...IMO!

Yes they were, but Warner Bros. wouldn't give Zack Snyder the additional funds to shoot the Black Freighter scenes live-action...thus, an animated adaptation.

Gerard Butler was originally cast to play the role of the Sea Captain in the live-action version, but ended up voicing the role in the animated version instead. And yes...as noted above by someone else, Snyder shot those "bookends" of Bernard reading the comic book, deliberately intending to incorporate Black Freighter one way or the other.

I´d advise you to get the DC.

The Ultimate Cut only lengthens the already long film and it does not flow very well. It is only worth getting if you are an extreme fan of the graphic novel in my opinion.

I love the graphic novel and like the Tales of the black freighter substory, but it does not transition well to the movie as a whole. It is better to watch it as a standalone feature,

Keep the money you would invest in the Ultimate Cut and buy the graphic novel and Tales of the black freighter as a standalone release.

Director's Cut is perfectly fine.

If I want Black Freighter I'll just read the graphic novel. Take what I'm saying with a grain of rice, as I've never seen the UC, but I can't imagine that the transition wouldn't be a little weird, and add on a bit too much fat to the (already a bit heavy) story. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie, but at times it is a little slow paced, mostly because it has to cram so much into itself to be a fairly faithful adaptation.

I have the Director's Cut and love it. I don't need no Ultimate Cut. It's long enough.

i guess what it comes down to is that if u didnt buy the uc b4 then there is no point in getting it now when it is selling for over 100$ on amazon the movie was alright but i am not going to pay that kind of price on a version that nobody can even sell me on being that i havnt seen the uc

Having seen both versions, I prefer the director's cut. The Ultimate Cut just seems unfocused every time they cut to the animation segments and takes me out of the actual story. As true it is to the comics, sometimes it just doesn't work the same for movies and the Ultimate Cut proved it. Also like what MrHt said " It's long enough."

Here's a little tip: the vast majority of people who express a preference for the director's cut are people who didn't pick up the ultimate cut and now regret it. Faced with the choice between shelling out like $70 for the better cut or retrofitting their own opinion to fit what they can easily obtain there are plenty of people who will just convince themselves that they don't want what they can't have.

If you happen to get a good deal on the UE it's the way to go. I'm in the position where I already have the UE on Blu and I could easily obtain the DC for $10. I also have all 3 cuts on DVD. I'll never watch anything but the UE again.

It is all preference. I suspect that if you are a longtime fan of the graphic novel, like me, you will prefer the Ultimate cut. I have both versions, and I like how the black freighter footage is woven in like the book. The DC does have that cool ultimate movie mode, and that alone makes it worth purchasing imo.

I love the movie and have all 3 cuts. The theatrical cut gets the most play, honestly. Followed by the Ultimate. The director's cut gets used the least.

Just one Muppet's opinion...

Stupid question alert!

Are all three of these versions available in one set or are they only available individually?
