argh i knew there was another western kurosawa remake but i had a brain fart, Magnificent Seven DUH. totally forgot about The Ring too. good one. also theres a remake of a remake that i like which is Last Man Standing, which claims to be a remake of Yojimbo but is obviously more influenced by A Fistful of Dollars. hope that gets a blu-ray release someday

(As "Magnificent Seven" has already been mentioned: )

Remember when "The Invasion" came out a couple years ago, and we all said, "Um...why?? We already HAVE the '78 Philip Kaufman "Body Snatchers". "
(Like the new producers were "interlopers" for not knowing the Jersey Had Been Retired for any other new versions.)

Sounds like your golden opportunity to deliver something new. When can we expect your first film?

I think the main problem is that Hollywood has been out of ideas for a while. All of the creative films with the great writing comes out with the lesser known production companies.

I supose if I had to pick one over the other I'd have to go with sequels over remakes. Now yes we all complain about sequels because for the most part they don't live up to the original. But how many people usually like remakes? The only two I can think of that I liked were Cape Fear and Scarface and that is perhaps because I saw the remakes before the originals.

The real problem is that the original stories (and yes there are plenty) make no money (or very little). The movie going public is a sucker for remakes and sequels. That's we see them each year and why they will keep coming.

Are they re-making that one as well? I did not heard about it. It's so hard to keep up with all these re-boot and remakes

It's a little naive to say "it's about money"...It FIRST has to be about the idiot who wants to spend his time producing it.
Given most of the reasons, they make them whether we want them or not:

- In the case of 80's icons, it's usually because it's the one the director grew up on in the theater, and also in the case of 70's-80's horror, the director missed the last generation's chance to see a good movie in an old-fashioned theater.
- In the case of "Clash of the Titans", it was "snubbing" the movie to say "Wait, y'mean, they couldn't use CGI back then?...That's lame!"
- In the case of foreign Americanizations, it's usually because of greedy or resentful studios seeing somebody else's movie get audience love under a different language, and wishing they owned it themselves.
- In the case of every movie Russell Brand, Eddie Murphy or Adam Sandler wants to remake, it's to find some recognizable title to name-only associate with a one or two word concept for a movie ("Quick, what's a a good football movie?--Oh, right, let's do 'Longest Yard'!...Nah, I wanna be rich, let's do 'Mr. Deeds'!")
- And in the case of "Karate Kid", Jaden Smith was taking karate lessons and had a birthday coming up.

Actually, I didn't say it that way, but when it comes all the way down to the end; It is all about money. In every scenario you mentioned someone lets it happen thinking about the money. Sure their may be some involved in a labor of love, and those are usually the ones that end up being good films.

that's an example of one of the best remakes ever as well as one of the best
sci-fi films ever done. Outstanding movie in all regards!
