I enjoy the franchise and I'll agree that it has been escalating in terms of unbelievability but only gradually as sequels tend to do. We might have to disagree on this but I think DH with a Vengeance had a high level of ridiculousness that negates any criticizing of 4 if you take 3 seriously.
3's my second favorite. I just had a great time. Jeremy Irons was the perfect brother for Alan Rickman and Samuel L Jackson & Bruce's chemistry was great. It was funny action packed and fun. Good story.

4 just doesn't have that great of story to me. Or it has potential but what a horrible villain. Best thing about 4: Lucy McClane.

3 was a fun movie and a good entry into the series but that is all I give it. There are some really great scenes but I feel like the movie was assembled from different parts; like they just figure out a bunch of good scenes and jumped John from one to the next. Jeremy Irons was very good for the part and Sam Jackson gave his usual good performance.

I do think that 4 lost out on some potential (Yipee ki yay) but I liked it more than 3. Also, I actually dislike the anticlimactic ending of 3. Very very weak showdown.

Put John Mcclane on a weelchair and let him live in a retirement home that gets overrun by terrorists. The leader of the terrorists is a friend of the cousin to Jeremy Irons Character in the third movie who wanted to revenge his brother's death.

Also John just got artificial teeth so he drools a lot plus he suffers from a bad case of diarrhea.

They absolutely have to bring the edginess and the R rating back to this series. If they do, I am all for #5. The first one remains of of my Top 5 favorite movies of all time.

Default Die Hard 5 - Papa Bear

Len Wiseman is the best to happen for action movies, since McTiernan! Old school man. Just watch how he makes his stunts on the extras on DH4. He has seriously improved and has the potential for movies not inflicted with only CGI.

Die Hard 5 - Papa Bear

After decades of turmoil, the family McClane at long last together at sea, happy. For once, McClane did not end up a victim of broken marriage or an incompetent chief of police. McClane got honored, reunited and happy and are together in the Mediterranian on the mighty cruise ship Freedom of the Seas, enjoying quality time with his family.

But oh destiny. Terror is at large, when a rat pack of criminals hijacks Freedom and wouldn't you know ... McClane was just taking a leak, on bare feet and had to disappear out of a porthole and is now the only one free on foot. Well, that is McClane and the rather hangover'ish scottish cook, played by Ian McShane. How about that. McClane and McShane.

Well, the criminals made the hunters first mistake. Don't you ever get between family and Papa Bear!

Default Skip Woods, Fox making John McClane die hard one more time

Quote:
ohn McClane’s string of bad luck may not yet be over.

“Hitman” screenwriter Skip Woods is in negotiations with Fox to take a crack at a new “Die Hard” script. The New York cop known for consistently being in the wrong place at the right time has already survived four run-ins with terrorists, traitors and psychotic loose cannons of one stripe or another.

In his last outing, “Live Free or Die Hard,” written by Mark Bomback and directed by Len Wiseman in 2007, McClane battled Web terrorists to $378 million in worldwide grosses — 20 years after first pitching Hans Gruber out a broken window at Fox towers. So the studio justifiably sees another installment as a strong bet.

There’s no word yet on the new project’s story line, but former Fox exec Alex Young (“Unstoppable”) is producing.

The CAA-repped Woods has already co-written several tentpole projects for Fox, including “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and the forthcoming TV adaptation “The A-Team.” He also wrote the original screenplay for “Swordfish.”

McClane himself, the CAA-repped Bruce Willis, has several projects moving toward release — Sylvester’s Stallone’s “The Expendables” and the Summit actioner “Red” — and then a late-summer production start on the Lionsgate video game adaptation “Kane & Lynch.”

After that, he’s free again to dig out the stubble, filthy T-shirt and beleaguered wisecracks.

I was hoping for another Die Hard. I thought LFoDH was really good, the second best in the series (behind the first). The writer does not instill a lot of confidence but who knows; Bruce Willis came up with many of the best lines in the first film.

Die Hard 4 was alright. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be considering the time inbetween movies. But, this is Die Hard, and I think Die Hard needs to be rated R! So hopefully if the new one is made, it will be rated R.

Thanks

I have to agree here. There's just a certain feel and graphicality ( ) to the Die Hard films. I hope we eventually get the R cut of Die Hard 4 on Blu-ray soon.

Love the Die Hard series and will wait impatiently for another, but please bring back the R rating. Or at least make the unrated available on bluray.

If the budget is large, you can forget about a R rating. Plus they will make even more money by going the PG-13 route. They can always release an unrated version on DVD/blu ray.

I'm still waiting. I haven't seen yet, and won't buy the PG-13 BD until the price drops down big.
