Can't wait to see what the buzz around this is. hopefully it's considered one of the greatest movies made in the past 5 years.

Todd McCarthy review (The Hollywood Reporter):
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rev...All+Reviews%29

Another rave from Variety:

Quote:
Few American filmmakers are as alive to the splendor of the natural world as Terrence Malick, but even by his standards, "The Tree of Life" represents something extraordinary. The iconoclastic director's long-awaited fifth feature is in many ways his simplest yet most challenging work, a transfixing odyssey through time and memory that melds a young boy's 1950s upbringing with a magisterial rumination on the Earth's origins. Result is pure-grade art cinema destined primarily for the delectation of Malick partisans and adventurous arthouse-goers, but with its cast names and see-it-to-believe-it stature, this inescapably divisive picture could captivate the zeitgeist for a spell.

http://www.lexpress.fr/culture/cinem...fe_993108.html

^For those who don't understand a single word in French, this review basically says that Tree of Life is absolutely magnificent, "a unique and majestic cinematic experience". and that you've never seen something quite like it. It also says that Pitt delivers his most mature performance to date.

Terrence Malick's Tree of Life - At a loss of words hmm. Very abstract, very surreal, quite an experience, need to process. Amazing score.

The Tree Of Life: utterly mesmerising first hour, slightly listless second, generally unmissable...visually breathtaking and technically masterful, but excruciatingly drawn out and annoyingly pretentious.

Metaphysical in narrative, ambitious in goal, and gorgeous in visual style, this is Malick's career-summation work, one that he has been preparing himself to make for decades.

Thin Red Line got similiar reviews I think and that's emotionally involving, great movie. This looks to be good too, but hopefully it has a set story unlike New world.

I would love that.

I'm wondering with the super long cut if there is going to be pacing issues, sometimes more isn't really good. I was watching Almost Famous Bootleg Cut the other day and there's some great stuff added in there but at times the film feels slow paced but I guess I'm not a sit down and watch a long movie type of guy anymore. Time's too short.

But I want to see this in theaters and Ill pick up the blu watch the six hour cut and see how that fares. Hopefully the option of both versions is allowed.

Depends on how one defines 'good'. I suspect that reasonable people may agree to disagree.
Or not.

'Voyage of Time'

the rumoured IMAX cut of the additional footage Malick had shot for 'Tree of Life'

Yes, Kubrick and Lynch films arent quite as "tricky" as they seem. Its all usually right there - but not in the most straightforward way.
I really don't get you guys.

There is not a singly "plotless" Terrence Malick film.

They are just different from your regular flicks, and that's SO refreshing!

They are unique masterpieces, but if it's not your cup of tea, fine.

I know that Malick films aren't for everyone. It would be strange if they were.

They are very rich in plot, and incredibly meaningful in so many ways.

If you can't see that. Well, too bad, but it won't do your reputation any good calling them artsy, plotless films, because they are just absolutely HONEST.

That's one of the things I love about his films. He just lets his heart speak.

Michael Bay does his thing, Malick does his. They are all very different, but they are honest, and I respect that.

Cheers.

I finally got a chance to watch this film. Only Malick work I've seen so far are Badlands and Days of Heaven thanks to Criterions.

This film blew me away with the imagery and visuals.

At first I was kind of confused as to what was going on because I could barely make out some of the narration whispering. After I realized what was going on and started to put things together it all made sense.

Not going to write a huge essay about the metaphors of life and everything else, but I found this to be one of the deepest though provoking movies I've ever watched.

neither masterpiece nor pretentious drivel

Being different doesn't make it amazing and doesn't make it terrible either

Imo with these films people need to try to rate on the merits of the movie and not other things
