Wrong-o, buddy, but you might have misremembered, as the "beautiful friendship (gag!)" ending was on the 25th Anniversary release as a bonus deleted scene. As I thought, the microscopic, one- or two-frame morph is the only variation between the original DVD and the 25th Anniversary one.

A couple of other slight changes: the Karras dream sequence in the 25th anniversary is heavily desaturated, whereas the dream is shown in full colour on the ‘97 release. Also, Friedkin decided to add a blue-tint to Regan’s possessed bedroom scenes for the anniversary edition (I personally prefer these scenes as original presented).

Also, if you have the ’97 dvd, listen out for the Pazuzu’s “Merrin!!!” scream during the Merrin/Pazuzu (statue) encounter in Iraq. Actually, other than one or two slightly distracting stereo ‘ping-pong’ fx, I much prefer the robust Dolby 2.0 track on the original dvd to the thin and harsh 5.1 included on the 25th anniversary disc.

Thank you for this, as now I'm spending a little less than $20 on a (used) copy of a 13-year old DVD on Amazon Marketplace...

Damn William Friedkin.

No horror movie has had the effect that this film has on me to this day. It's brilliant in so many ways, in my opinion. I still can't sleep after watching it.

Am I the only one that still gets nightmares about this film? I am 26 now and every once in a while I get a dream where I am part of the movie, freaks me out. Scariest movie ever.

I actually never watched this film in it's entirety until the 25th Anniversary DVD came out. As a kid, just the previews and hearing Tubular Bells would make me change the channel since I had seen pictures of Regan and just that alone scared the Hell out of me. Today, I think it's one of the greatest films ever made, transcending the horror genre.

Any chance they will include some all new bonus material that has never been seen?

Hopefully Warner will release this as a Blu-book. The film deserves it.

I hope so... but considering most people on here seems to hate them I'm not sure many will agree with us!

Is this the street date for The Exorcist Blu-ray? If so, where did you get the info? I ask because I have searched but I come up empty every time. Also, September 20th is a Monday and usually almost all movies are released on Tuesdays. just curious...
