im with you i hate m$!

But too the people who are now changing their tune and want a HD-DEAD player! What are you thinking pick a side and stay with that side dont waste your money! You will just get bad PQ & AQ from universal! And F**k paramount and their 10 films we don't need it! Blu still has the more choice! If you want uni & paramount titles just buy the dvd and up convert it on ur ps3 or what ever you have! No need to prolong this thing even further its a format war and sure there is going to be knock backs but we need to send out a clear message that blu is still the champ. So stay blu and dont go to the red side!

I already own a HD DVD player but haven't purchased any HD DVDs in a quite while. This announcement annoys me quite a bit but only makes me more determined not to support HD DVD anymore. Why drag out the format war when it was so close to being over? It just seems like an attempt to sabotage both formats, IMO, so it's a no brainer for me not to support them.

That's the disappointing thing to me. I'd already sold off the DVDs I owned of the ANNOUNCED Paramount BD titles (Jack Ryan, Face/Off, Top Gun).

Oh well...I'm sticking Blu only for all the reasons I bought Blu initially. Paramount cannot change that.

You should contact the guy organizing the class-action lawsuit about those damages.

I just bought a PS3 primarly for the Blu Ray player I have only bought 300 and my next BD purchase was going to be Transformers, now I guess it will be something else. Paramount being HD DVD exclusive is not nearly enough to make me go HD DVD. The only thing that will make me buy a HD DVD player is if HD DVD wins out right. I still think that HD DVD will die, the faster the better.

As a new grad student I understand your position with $, but I think at decision to switch is just extending this "war". Transformers albeit a great movie will not crush Blu-ray (neither will shrek 3, or borne).

Blu-ray will take this punch (sucker punch) and keep on rolling. Its too early to be jumping ship IMO especially with all the $ we all have invested.

I'm not worried...I'm just going to keep buying more and more BD when I get the chance

Blu definately has a lot behind it this Christmas, so we're not going to see a "cut off at the knees" sucker punch by Transformers

It's going to hurt though. It'll sell at least 300 numbers, probably 150K by Xmas.

Most of the good titles are coming from Blu studios anyway which justified my purchase of a PS3. I barely have enough in the budget for these. So, I don't have money to waste on new hardware just for one or two movies.
Well said. There are many upcoming Blu Ray movies I want to buy this Fall without Paramount. I only have so much cash and so much time. I will not waste it on hddvd. But I will have to really think about buying the 2nd BD player for upstairs now.
FU Paramount !

I was thinking of going format neutral way before I got my ps3 in December now going neutral can be justified I guess. Don't get me wrong I love blu but hd-dvd does have and will have some good exclusives too. I am quite upset that i will now probably have to spend on additional player(either a neutral player or hd-dvd stand alone) but I like to keep up with new technolgies.

I'm not really sure why the format war exists to begin with. Its just a matter of people's opinion, some people like apples while others like oranges. Some people like coke while others like pepsi. I don't really get why people bash each other's preference in hd format or in anything for that matter. Can't we all just get along? Paramount going exclusive might actually put an end to the format war with many people deciding to go neutral now or deciding to stick with strickly with dvd still. I have a feeling that blu-rays and hd-dvd will be around for some time with no clear cut winner. Again look at Coke vs Pepsi, or McDonalds vs Burger King. Those are icons that have been around for years and I would say people are fairly neutral with those products. Until something bigger comes along that can crush both blu-ray and HD-DVD I don't see any format winning, even though blu-rays had plenty of victories as of recently in favor of it.

My question to you guys now is what does Sony and the other studios that support blu have to do in order to combat Paramount going exclusive to HD-DVD

I Don't get all the fuss? There is still so many great movies to get. So we don't get Transformers, so what ? we will get plenty of other titles that people on HD-DVD won't be getting.

Isn't this the first time a format has LOST support? And it is a MAJOR studio.

It's hard to shrug off this insult easily. Paramount has told everyone who has a Paramount title on pre-order to go to hell. How anyone will ever be able to spin this as pro-consumer, is beyond me.

If they had a sales argument, we'd be hurt but could see their justification. In this case, they simply took payola.

We'll pay you $50 million not to play those songs.
OK!

Gary

If people really wanted to make a statement, those that have Paramount titles on pre-order, would cancel them ASAP.

Thanks for playing into their hands. This is exactly what they are after. But, if thats how easy it is to sway you - then you are not worthy of Blu to start with. Cheerio!

I stay with blu! There are a lot of exciting titles coming up especially now since Fox is back on the waggon. I rather buy a second Panasonic for 800 Euros for the European BD releases than shelling out 200 Euros for a Toshiba HD-DVD Player. Years ago, in the early days of DVD I owned a Toshiba Player for a short period of time. It was the crappiest piece of machinery I ever owned in my life!

No way I'm going neutral, this move certainly doesn't guarantee HD DVD victory, not by a long shot, doesn't even shift the balance towards making it more likely to win than Blu-ray. The last thing I want to do is amass a load of HD DVD discs that have a strong possibility of becoming relics some day.

HD-DVD was doomed for sure this Christmas. Headed to be wiped out. Everyone, including MS knew it, so they had to fire off a last desperate Hail Mary pass. They bought themselves some more time. That's it.

Yes, it's annoying. Yes, it's bad news, but look at the overall big picture for a moment.

I can't help but think that this is Microsoft throwing money in order to hope that both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD die in favor of their completely impractical download scheme.
