Price and whether or not I have it on DVD already and feel as though it needs to be upgraded.

I only buy blu-ray movies I will watch MULTIPLE times. I have a collection of DVD's that I only watched once and it is a waste. It's better to netflix or rent than buy if the movie is not worth watching multiple times.

Because this is blu-ray, I also only buy GREAT picture quality. I want at least a 4.5/5 rating on picture quality. Otherwise, what is the point of buying in high definition?

If a movie meets those two criteria, I will buy. Otherwise I netflix or pass.

i collect the movies that have rewatch value.....if it's gonna be watched 1-2x, i don't bother getting it.

if i can watch it more than 1-2x a month.....then it's a good buy for me.

i also watch the price....new releases i usually won't pay more than $20-$22.

For me I have them grouped in categories. I focus on collecting by Comedy/Drama/Horror etc

How do you collect ?
For me, a Blu-ray purchase is auteur driven and price driven and that is how I purchase them.

I have mine grouped in alphabetical order but a few Blu-rays are in my cinema shrine as opposed to my Blu-ray section. I separate Criterion, Kino, Masters of Cinema and a few other releases away from my regular Blu-ray shelves.

If I want it and it is a price I am fine with paying, I buy it.

usually ill just watch sales and pick up anything on my wishlist that falls within an acceptable price range. sometimes though ill get really interested in a specific director and buy up everything theyve done, but i got most of that out of the way early on. i havent really discovered any new directors like that in a while.

and as for new releases, theres some movies i cant wait for so ill spend more than i normally would, but usually its not hard to find a new release for under 20. (unless its a criterion which depending on the title i might have to shell out the money for)

Well, before I make any purchases I take a few things into consideration:

1) Replayability
2) Price
3) PQ and AQ

I also do like reading the reviews on here before I make a purchase and I don't mind waiting until the price is right.

I buy films I either: a) absolutely love, b) really like, c) have either won the Oscar for Best Picture and/or appeared on an AFI list. In the case of "a," I'll buy that film as soon as it's released. "B" and "C" I usually wait till a price drop or if releases are slowing up. I try not to buy myself anything in November or December in order to give my friends and family an easier chance of getting me something for Christmas I don't already own. All of the above applies to both new releases and catalogue titles.

Replay value. I also try to avoid buying movies because they're cheap.

My first criteria is usually price. I'll go through all the $10 Blu-Rays I can find, and if I can't find anything decent there, I'll move up to the $15 price range, but become a bit more hesitant to purchase.

When I'm searching through a price range, I've already got most of my favorite movies on Blu-Ray so far, but occasionally I'll find a phenomenal movie I haven't seen in a long time that will really catch my eye. The Princess Bride for instance. It's a great movie, and even though it's not $10, I don't have it on DVD nor have I seen it in a really long time, so I picked it up.

So I'd have to say:
Top 25 favorite movies > Price > Do I own it on DVD? > Desirability > Cult classics > Drama/Action flicks > Comedies > Suspense > Horror > Chick Flicks

Another movie I've got my eye on is Unleashed. It comes out September 14th on Blu and I've already preordered it.

As far as specific genres of movies I like to buy, it really all depends on my mood around that time.
