I have been waiting for the price to drop to pre-order as well. This is a must own. It will really suck to have to purchase this at $30+

"Well, that one rhymed..."
Yes I thought that to be odd that that was the only note that rhymed.

BUT... Also one of the funniest lines is
[Show spoiler]when Tim Conway was peeking at Phyliss undressing through two people holes in the dogs eyes and he said he couldn't see because a nose was in his way

I guess that Amazon $26 pre-order price months back was the cheapest. Target.com does have it for $25.99 + tax + shipping. I want this for sure but doesn't look like will be deals on this unfortunately.

Looks like the cheapest would be to wait for Borders to get it, then use their semi-weekly 33% off coupon (or the more infrequent 40%).

It's down to $26.49 on Amazon. My copy hasn't shipped yet (thought I would have it today) and Amazon shows "ships within 12 to 14 days."

So was this released today or not?

Didn't show up at BB, Target, Borders, or B&N. I ordered off of Amazon and hope it doesn't take 11-12 days to ship as it states.

I've noticed that sometimes the smaller studios are late shipping stock to Amazon.

I pre-ordered on BestBuy.com since it was technically cheaper (and I am a Silver Reward Zone member so shipping is free). I got an email last night that mine has shipped. Honestly I am surprised because the Dark Night of the Scarecrow was "backordered" for 1-2 weeks.

Ordered it at Borders. Free shipping, right to my house. Used a 33% off coupon. Total (including tax) $23.92. But it'll take about 10 days. Still pretty pleased

Lucky! Please post a review when you watch it. I doubt I'm going to find one on any of the main BD sites. I'm really curious about the whole cropping thing.

I got mine today from BestBuy.com and... I cannot comment on the cropping as I don't have the DVD and really cannot remember what it looked like on HBO in that aspect. However I can say that...sadly... the PQ is pretty bad. Now, I am not a blu ray guru and only call them by what my eyes see. To give reference, I think many of the movies from the 70s and 80s that people hate because of the grain and because they aren't pristine are stunning. I will watch almost anything and be happy if I can see something new I don't recall seeing (detail) or if there are scenes that are bright and clear. This one looks like...mud. There are a few scenes here and there where a small hope of HD shines through and then there are many moments where I would swear I was watching a VHS tape. There are daylight scenes that are so bad it makes Dirty Dancing BD (both of them) look reference quality.

I am not great with sounds and I really dont have the best setup for that but it sounded pretty good to me. So don't take this as the gospel as I am just someone who appreciates a good blu ray depending on how it was shot and what it was meant to look like. I just cannot imagine The Private Eyes was ever meant to be this messy.

Rats. I was afraid of that. Well, I might be canceling my borders order. For $15, I'd be happy, but for that price...yeesh. Thanks much, though, for the review. Any extras besides commentary?

That's very disappointing. And it's very frustrating with the price of this one if they've put very little into the restoration on this. I already sold my DVD and I want this movie so I'll pay the fee on this one. I really wish there were some kind of standards forcing studios to meet certain criteria before releasing movies on blu-ray.

Damn! But thanks for your review, Blueoktober. Looking forward to reading more feedback from others who've picked this up, to see if there's a general consensus or not. I've held back on ordering it mostly due to the price. But if others chime in with the same feedback, this'll end up being a very sad "pass".
