Me too! And the best place (at the time) for Smoked Meat there was Adam's! Is it still there?

I know this isn't relevant to your post, but I thought I'd say this for the people who are thinking about moving here. ![]() Really, the places you wanna stay away from in the Lower Mainland in BC are East Vancouver (avoid Hastings at all costs) and certain areas in Surrey (specifically Whalley & Newton). Other cities like Langley, Abbotsford, and even Coquitlam are nice but quite a bit far from Vancouver. In Vancouver itself, the Western neighbourhoods are for the rich (Point Grey, Shaugnessy, etc). Personally, I think the nicest place to live in Vancouver that's not as expensive as the other Vancouver West areas is Kitsilano (I wish I can live there)! West Vancouver (a different city than Vancouver and not to be confused with the western parts of Vancouver) is probably the most expensive city in BC. Most of the people who live there are mega-rich retired people and the houses there are gorgeous. From the other cities, I personally would hate living in Richmond - to me, it's a boring place and has way too many FOB's for my liking (sorry, my opinion) - sometimes when I'm there I feel like the foreign one. Not to mention, commuting from there to Vancouver is a bit of a PITA (even with the new Canada Line). It's a nice, clean and safe city but I would never live there. North Vancouver (again, a different city) I really would not recommend either, because you then have to deal with the Lions Gate Bridge if you work in Vancouver or want to go down there. It's not the only way to take, but you will have to cross that bridge a lot. Burnaby is a nice city, and I like it a lot, although some areas are boring. It has a bit of everything, not too far from Vancouver, and is a really good place to settle down if you have a family. ![]() As for Surrey, I lived there for a year and as I said my folks live there. There are some really nice areas in Surrey, but most Vancouverites think Surrey is a piece of crap. As I said above, there are certain areas to avoid there, but generally I recommend living there in the nicer areas - getting to Vancouver is pretty reasonable (30-50 minutes), and you have the Sky Train servicing Surrey Central, etc. South Surrey (and the neighboring city White Rock) are beautiful places to live in and they're growing big time (they opened a Future Shop there recently). White Rock might be one of my favourite places to go with friends - great views, good restaurants and a nice beach. Hope that helps those of you planning on moving here. ![]() |
