Yes. And, he's having too much fun. Apparently addicted to Blues Bros.
He needs to get out more. Walk around in the rain. Sneeze. Catch the flu.

Its funny you said that because I have recently wondered that after posting, somehow I think my days here at Blu-ray.com are coming to a close.

I recommend you buy the soundtrack then. You get your daily Blues brothers fix while diversifying your blu-ray players diet.

Do yourself a favor and pick up their CD "Briefcase Full of Blues". Released in 1978 -- 2 years before the Blues Brothers movie. It's very good.

Hey thanks for that recommendation, Briefcase Full of Blues is awesome!

So they made 4 albums before John Belushi's death. vv

1. Briefcase Ful of Blues
2. The Blues Brothers soundtrack
3. Made in America
4. Best of The Blues Brothers

Does anyone here own #3 and/or #4 ^^ , and are those 2 worth picking up?

Thanks

It's been a while since I last heard Made in America. But IIRC it was nowhere near as good as the first two.

There's a reason why Blues Brothers were a "straight" act before the movie. It's a misconception that there were Blues Brothers sketches on SNL but Aykroyd intentionally debuted the characters as musical guests rather than as sketch characters so he could retain ownership over them.

Had they appeared in a sketch like "Coneheads" they would have been owned by SNL.

A lot of people lump "The Blues Brothers" in as an SNL movie but if you pay attention it has a lot less SNL crossover than you'd think. Compare it to "Gilda Live" which Lorne Michaels was fully behind (and which is why he wouldn't release Paul Shaeffer from his contract to appear in TBB) and you'll see what a rogue movie it is in regards to breaking free from its origins.

Everyone acknowledges the SNL connection but some of the main reasons TBB is so beloved today come from skirting that same connection. It is the true debut of two characters that were deliberately deprived of characterization previously and it feels like a real movie because they made a real movie rather than making am extended SNL sketch with a bunch I cast member cameos. I love the first 5 years of SNL but I'm glad the film didn't have Lorne Michaels forcing the others in. You don't have to hate Bill Murray and Gilda Radner to know that this movie is better off for the bridges that Aykroyd burned.

Blues Brothers Complete is a 2-disc compilation with all the Belushi-era Blues Brothers album tracks on it. It's the only way to go. The only downside is that the sequence is all mixed up, but on my iPod, for example, I just re-sequenced them into album order.

It has an otherwise-unavailable B-side from the Soul Man single too. So you actually get more than buying the albums separately.

So why does the reissue of this film, on Blu-ray July 9th, not contain lossless audio?

With all the great music in this flick, you would think that Universal would have the
common sense, to reissue it with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack.

What's the point in reissuing this movie, with the same crappy lossy audio it had before?

Cashgrab. The practice has only been going on since home video has been around.
In this case it's Universal's "Best of the Decade" line.

Anyone who wants the best version of Blues Brothers available. Pretty simple.
Judging by the collections on this site, over 2000 people. So perhaps yoiu should be careful who you call an idiot, as you don't want to come across as one yourself.

Sorry, I should of snapped a picture...

I was gonna buy it, but wanted to check here first.

7.99 with a dvd trade in...

any takers?

nevermind... just read a review on best buy that someone bought it thinking that it was dts-ma, but its the the same old disc...

Oh yeah, this is one of the best catalogue transfers I've ever seen from Universal. The quality of the additional scenes does drop quite noticeably, but given that they're from a rescued preview print (IIRC) that's to be expected.

Hello all

Was wondering if out of the three listed here on Blu-ray.com, which of them is the best one to get if I want to get the most scenes for the movie?

For me the importance runs in, (1) most scenes "in the movie", (2) quality of the surround sound, (3) "quality" quality of the sound.

In other words I care most about getting all the scenes I can but "in the movie", IE not as some extras in a separate section on the disk, but in the film & edited in the places they are supposed to be. (2) more care that I get sounds spread out and as they are supposed to be place and mixed well for transitions, (3) might tick of some here, but am buying this not for the songs, but to see the movie and story, so care somewhat of the "quality" the sounds are, but its not my top issue.

oh and btw, don't care one bit about Digital copies or Ultra-Violet, or any other extras aside from the movie.

Thanks for any help.

I realize I'm responding to a stale post, but in case anyone else is curious...

I have the original release which contains both the theatrical cut and the extended cut, which contains extra footage in the movie (about 20 minutes worth). Everything is on a single disc, so I am assuming the later releases are simply the same disc in updated packing, likely just new slipcovers for the Universal 100th Anniversary from 2012.

Does anyone know if the new limited edition, due out May 6, has a new transfer?
It looks to be a retread, because it's listing no lossless audio.

Why would it need a new transfer? Few titles elicited a bigger sigh of relief than seeing this lacked Universal's usual ugly sharpening and DNR.

I think what most of us are looking for is a DTS-HD MA 5.1 track.
