Considering this is Blu-ray and a movie of this high caliber needs a new transfer............

Considering MGM is bankrupt..............

I think it's more than a safe bet, more like guaranteed, we will get a craptastic looking presentation.

Have to disagree there, The new Chitty Chitty blu looks awesome!

No update from Mr. Hunt on this today.

I was hoping he'd clear up the version(s) of the film and special features. Hopefully that info will be released soon. I can't wait to see if this gets a great transfer or not.

I certainly hope and pray you are right when it comes out. This is modern day masterpiece that belongs with other modern epic films like Braveheart. Braveheart got a downright impressive transfer. This movie deserves no less.

The german version was the best in terms of pq. It got high reviews. hopefully this is the version we get. the uk version got not so good reviews.

I thought the majority of Sioux and Lakota enjoyed the movie and thought Costner was pretty understanding of their history and culture...until the whole "The Dunbar" fiasco in the Black Hills.

They showed the clip of Dunbar saying "C'mon, what're you doing, shoot back!", like the Lakota had to be reminded to fight back against the Cavalry...
As noted, the Sioux historically did pretty well against Custer without outside help.

I own the UK edition and am very pleased with that. It will take a great sale for me to double dip and get this movie.

Dances With Wolves is a great film that I cannot wait to add to my Blu-ray library. I will wait to see how the PQ is, and that will decide whether I buy the North American Blu-ray release or the German one.

I think I will hold off. I like the extended version but see the time rated on the Amazon site is actually the theatrical release and no mention that it is the extended version. I got burned like this in the past so will hold off for now on the pre-order. I hope I'm wrong as will be buying if it is the extended version.

If MGM announced it as the "Extended Version" then it will be the "Extended Version". I hope that it has the theatrical cut on it also, but that's just me.

BTW, glad you announced that you'll "hold off" on this. I was just wondering whether or not you'd be purchasing this (sarcasm).

It is the extended edition, Amazon is not correct in their listing which is often the case. I mean they have the Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player listed as "first offered in 2001" on their site, which wasn't true, it was released in 2007. It will be the 4 hour director's cut, weather or not the theatrical cut is also included remains to be seen.

Here is my review of the Dance with Wolves (UK) transfer:

4.5/5 PQ (landscape shots are jaw-dropping...every blade of grass is defined with insane clarity)

3/5 AQ (very front heavy, even during action sequences. Example: near the opening when Costner grabs teh horse and rides in no-mans land. The music picks up. Its high tension all of a sudden. And yet...the surrounds stay pretty silent

)

Personally, for me, Miller's Crossing was the best film of 1990 - easily the best screenplay at any rate - but I have great admiration for Dances With Wolves.

Here's hoping the superior original theatrical cut is an option. If the disc is Extended Only, I'll have to pass.

Why not just import the UK version if you do not want the extended?
