The Spider-Man franchise needs to be redone just like The Batman franchise. They really screwed up with Spider-Man 3. I'd like to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt play Peter Parker and Justin Chatwin play Harry... That would be cool... Sam Raimi went with Toby McGuire because they favor so much. Toby was too Geeky...

I have to disagree...as this plot continued from Superman II, I think he plays a twisted, somewhat defeated and darker version of Lex Luthor(much like I would imagine a person like that would really be).

As for Lois Lane...she just didn't have any attitude, and Lois Lane is ALL attitude. Although she was the 3'rd or 4th Lois Lane I ever saw, I like Terri Hatcher from Lois & Clark the best.(not a casting suggestion, just my opinion)

Maybe we should start a Superman thread, as we have gotten a little off topic on this SM4 thread.

What's Superman got to do with Spider-Man?

You'll also notice that I did cover that fact in the last sentence of my post:

I think that depends on which comic line you choose to follow. My whole appeal towards SM is that he is, at heart, a big dork...like me!

Intelligent, socially awkward and trying not to let on he has super powers. lol

If you check out the old amazing Spider-man comics (or even the current ones) you'll notice that he is actually just a guy who has bad luck. He might be slightly geeky but is definitely not as geeky as Tobey portrayed him. Hell, in the comics the chicks are actually crazy about him! Peter Parker has confidence. He gets angry. He doesn't curl up in a corner and cry, like Tobey did most of the time in all three spider-man films.

I actually think Chris O'Donnell would have made an excellent Peter Parker. He looks the most like the Peter Parker from the comics. (AND the cartoons for that matter.) Just a pity he wasted his superhero acting abilities on Robin.

I have only read summarized versions of the comic stories, so I don't claim to have any special view, and I know in the comics chicks dig him & all you said. Still, in my head Parker is still a little goofier or teenage-like than other heroes...maybe that's why I think of him like that.

Now I do agree that O'Donnel has the classic Parker appearance. I just don't think he has enough geek to him. But he is a good actor, so I could have just shoved my foot in my mouth! heheh

I still can't believe the response from the audiance at that end scene where tobey/peter was trying to cry. everyone in the auditorium was laughing. and this is my biggest problem with tobey. He just express emotions very well.

Default I go back to the original

Back when Peter's flame was Gwen -- before she was killed by the original Green Goblin; back when Mary Jane was just Gwen's best friend; back then Mary Jane always called Peter "Tiger"... why? In her own words: "Because you're not one."

The early Peter/Spider-Man pair was almost a split personality. Peter was what we now call a geek -- and Peter even whined in the comics about having to repair his costume and complained that you never hear of any other super heroes having to repair their costumes (they always just seemed to appear in brand new costumes the next day). Spider-Man was a bit of a loud mouth. One of the most notable of all things about Spider-Man in the early days was his constant verbal taunting of his opponents during battles. This dichotomy was barely shown in the first film during the "cage match", but seemed to be completely dropped after that.

I know the movies were done for the more recent crowd -- those that know Peter and Spider-Man from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. But the original was a bit more interesting to me.

All I know is they better get David Koepp back for the script. I'm sorry but Sam Raimi and his brother can't write a good script. Spidey 3 seemed to me very thin with no depth at all to the characters and too campy with the whole saturday night fever thing. Hell sandman had like 3 lines in the whole thing that was a waste of a good actor.

I'm not arguing, just can't help play Devil's Advocate sometimes. (But I think you can appreciate it based on your avatar, heheh)

So who would take over for him though? I think he was perfect for Peter Parker.
There is no replacement for him. If he wasn't cast the part I would have said Topher Grace (Venom) but that isn't happening now. Probably be some half-wit look alike and ruin the entire series.

You could write out Mary Jane as Spidey has had several romances. But there is NO spiderman without Tobey McGuire - period.

It didn't really suck. What sucked was all the pointless "character developement". They could cut out that entire bar scene of him dancing and I would never complain. The movie was 2:15 long. Chop out some of that pointless nonsense to about 2 hours and the movie is a lot more fun and tolerable.

Watch Terminator 2. Once the momentum gets going it hardly stand still a second. That is part of the greatness.
